Dear'crazymom18'
Yes I have experienced the dry mouth while on Prozac. It is a lot less now.I used lemon drops and chewed gum to keep the saliva going. It does eventually lessen and usually goes away entirely.
Dry mouth is quite a common side affect with many ADs so try not to worry.

Hi JoyceVeronia,

I went thru the same thing when I was placed on Zoloft. It is a common side affect of AD's and usually goes away.

I was just wondering if any of you ladies have had difficulty with the generic brand of Zoloft???

Any feedback would be appreciated.

I have another question for those who have been on Prozac and switched to another AD.
I was on Prozac for 2 yrs and really was getting tired of the dead-zone feeling as in no emotional feelings to hardly anything, plus it killed the sex drive...didn't need help with that and was quite frustrating.
So I talked with my doctor and I have now been switched to Wellburtin SR.

My question is, could there be any withdrawal from the Prozac as it gets out of my system? I've been switched over for about 3 months. My peri symptoms seem to be a bit more on the forefront at the moment and I was wondering if possibly I'm just noticing them more now since I'm getting a bit more of feelings back and no longer have that dead feeling inside.

Has anyone else been through this?

(and yes, I get dry mouth also from both AD's so far!)

Jes, I am coming off Prozac as well. At the mo, I don't feel anything detrimental but I'm still in the early stages.

Are you 'switching' from Prozac or trying to get off altogether?

Keep me updated on how you're feeling as you do this?!!

Dear jes
Yes it is very possible that you will have withdrawal symptoms and depending on how high your dosage it might take a while to get better. Supposedly Prozac is one of the easier ADs to wean off as it has a half life.
I actually have been on Prozac for a while and Thank God it suits me well but of course each of us has our individual physiological reactions.
I hope you do better on the Wellburtin SR but your mind and body do need time to adjust to the new AD.You might consider, under your Doctor's supervision,a small dose of Xanax till your system re-adjusts.

Wishing you lots of Luck
Stay calm,all will be well

Getting off altogether. I seem to be suffering from Prozac Backlash. The med isn't helping me anymore so it's harming me instead.

Thanks Elizabeth, just needed a little boost of knowledge here.
It never registered that switching AD's would be noticeable. I have a little bit of anxiety once in a while, I can usually handle it, just takes me bit longer then usual right now.
My job is stressful and that is where I have the anxiety the most. I'm ok at home. So we'll see how it goes for a while.

Marrin, sorry to hear of the backlash...hope things go well for you as you adjust off. Let us know how you're doing.

I had a wee bit of dry mouth starting Paxil, similar to Prozac, but I titrated so slowly that it was never too bad. Lots of water helps.

I also am weaning off my AD. I am feeling a slight increase in anxiety and dizziness though! Grrrrrr. Have to do it SLOWLY. I just want to get off as much stuff as possible!! Too many health issues popping up out of the blue and I can't help but wonder how many are from the drugs I have been forced to take because of a miserable menopause.

Lipitor, Paxil, estrogel and P cream. Oh and a daily low dose aspirin. Supposed to take calcium/mag when I remember. Supposed to take Omega 3. When I put it all out it is a LOT. B Vits, Vit C, Vit D, coQ10, chromium....there might be more, I would have to look. I could give up a meal with the number of pills I should take!!

I would think if you were going to have "withdrawl symptoms" from the prozac you would have noticed by now. It usually only takes a day or two for your brain to say, "Hey! Something's different here." Something you should know is that prozac increases the availability of serotonin and wellbutrin increases norephinephrine. So, if you're noticing your peri symptoms are alot worse with just the wellbutrin, you may need a medication that combines the two effects.

Thanks Ang...
My doctor has added a small dose of the prozac back into the mix of things. So far things seem to be calming some for me. Lets just hope it last!
