Hi Girls,

I don't know where to put this , but here it is I am getting the strangest feeling upn falling alseep. It isn't really that falling feeling you get just before dozing off...it is really hard to describe and so intense and constant it keeps me from sleeping. It started about a week and 1/2 ago ....4 days before my last period...I have had it before very far between episodes and only briefly, but this is hrrible. I wil try to describe last night....I am just laying there thinking, really trying to focus on prayer and I must start to doze off when I am wide awake with this funny head feeling and it travels down into my chest....it isn't lightheaded pursay or dizzy just a sinking feeling in my head like I am sinking into something....it is almost beyond description, and then I sometimes jerk or twitch and I know this is normal at times, but I am awake when this happens....this goes on for hours, everytime I start to doze I get the "sinking" feeling and it wakes me. It went on for a week and then stopped for 3 days and now last night again. I was very bothered by it before and last night as it appeared again I couldn't help but to think brain tumour? but it goes away when I open my eyes or get up and it shows up when going to sleep I would thing something like that wouldn'y be so selective? I felt warm on certain parts of my body, but not my head so I wrote off hotflashes....almost felt like a fever, but my head felt cool, I woke this morning with some typical pms symptoms again...ALREADY it has only been 4 days since my period stopped.

Sleep was my only escape from this madness and now I am afraid to do that, don't get me wrong I have had my share of insomnia, but this is very different.......I don't know if since it showed up so intesly just before my last period if it has anything to do with it and now I feel symptoms again......I also have had a mild sore throat and I use a netti pot and this morning while using it....well you get the point, but I don't remember being particularly congested when it first appeared week befor last.

Does anyone know what I am talking about?? I know I am jumping around but does this happen to anyone so constantly because I am just a bit worried now.

thanks for any imput HUGS Mikki

Oh yes, many, many times. SOmetimes it feels like a little electric shock too. Mostly though, just like your falling and then, boom, jolt up and then over and over. i hate those nights. Just when you think sleeping is going to be the escape from all the rest of these symptoms, that one hits and then its an awful experience. I hope this helps you feel better.

i get that as well & you gave a pretty good description of it. fortunately for me it comes & goes & has been pretty infrequent. it is a horrible feeling & i sure hope that it goes away soon for you.

this just recently started for me too. I can't help but wonder if it is hormone/thyroid related...

It feels like you're sinking into an abyss or something as your dozing off, accompanied by a bit of a shaky feeling. I hate it!

I started noticing this recently as well. Fortunately I have gotten used to it, and now view it as a sign that sleep is coming. At it's worst, I didn't sleep for 3-4 days.
It will get better!!!!

I had this for a year straight, I swear. Every night I knew once I got all comfortable, WHAM, electric shock feeling, intense hot flash, restless leg/out of this world feeling through my whole body. I'd get up and either cry from frustration or get angry and throw a fit. A miracle has happened and I haven't had any of it for the last month. Not to say it won't come back (please meno god...NO MORE ohmy.gif ). I just wanted to say it does stop sooner or later, hopefully sooner for you guys.

I always wondered if I was the only one who got this crazy symptom. I thought about posting it here but for the life of me I couldn't describe it. You all have. I haven't had it for a while and hope it stays away it is awful!!
The electrical feeling and sinking perfect description... one time I had it so bad it felt like a swoosh of warp speed in my head.. it is so hard to explain!
A few months ago I had the restless leg syndrome too.. I think this may be related to the thyroid at least that's what I read. I don't know but thanks for sharing everyone.. this is a crazy time in our lives.
Reminds me of that song don't know who sings it but it goes
I've been through so many changes in my life... it's a wonder I can think at all!

That's kind of a combination of two songs.

The first line is Lionel Richie's "My Love" and the second is from Paul Simon's "Kodachrome". laugh.gif

But very appropriate for this time in our lives for sure....

Hi babe, yeah I get that.......I also get the sinking heebie jeebies when I wake as well as the heart trying to punch out of my chest. I had put it down to nightmares and anxiety but now it happens just as I fall asleep as well. It jerks me awake and drives me mad. Sometimes I have to take a tranquiliser to get to sleep. Man, I didn't realise anyone else felt this too. It is really hard to describe isn't it? Thanks for bringing this up.

Hope you get some relief babe......I don't know what causes it.

I hate that "sinking" feeling, and I agree that it's a hard feeling to describe. I never get this feeling before falling asleep - it happenes mostly during the day for me... I sympathise - it's horrible! Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks for the input,
I see some new words here that are good to describe this...again yesterday afternoon when I started to doze on the couch and last night the same thing for about 2 hours give or take. I had a hotflash before bed last night that literally turned my whole body red/pink even the parts that are are normaly white as can be ....my behind... was pink like I get when I sit in a bath that is too warm, I never get this below the chest/neckline, it started with those lovely palp's and then the burn in the face and then engulfing my whole body...It was 9 so I thought my cue to go to bed early and catch up on sleep..HA,HA NOT...the sec I began to doze on comes the sinking into the nothingness and again, again, again until maybe 12ish I must have finally fallen asleep to be up at 4......now I can join the sleep deprived on this site at 2 in the morning. Maybe there is a reason they call it "falling to sleep" I never thought about that, maybe it is a literal meaning?? I am trying to not be oeverly anxious about it, but another lovely thing popped kinto my head last night...maybe I have sleep apnea, is that where you don't breath, that would cause some funny head thing maybe...oh well probably no rhyme or reason just like everything else with this time of life. Thanks again for the thoughts, HUGS Mikki

I have been experiencing it lately too and yesterday and I had it happen in the morning at work. It's freaky. I hate it when I'm drifting off to sleep and within about 30 minutes of drifting off, I jerk awake with this almost electrical sensation all over. It will happen a couple of times and then I'll finally go off to sleep and then sometimes (usually around 3:00 - 4:00 a.m.), I'll awaken with the hot flash and palpitations.

Years ago in my 30's, I was experiencing something similar where I'd awaken with a racing heart (no hot flashes then). They put me on a beta blocker which helped. Now, though, I think it's a hormonal thing with me.

Hang in there! I believe we'll all get better!

I have had this too and it just started up again this week. It is really scaring me. I agree it feels like a sinking feeling, but for me also, it's kind of like that feeling you get when your on an amusement park ride...I'm sinking, I'm aware of it as I drift off, I feel funny in my stomach and I awake quickly because of this feeling. I was wondering if this is what a panic attack is like when you're sleeping, does anyone know? I read that you can have panic attacks during sleep...my anxiety has been bad again so I was wondering if this is the cause. Funny that this started again with me, I just started my cycle...maybe it is hormonal? Also, I don't get the electrical shock or zap feelings, but I do experience a feeling as if I've stopped breathing for seconds as well...

Hope everyone is doing well

Take care,
Tracey

ok a thought here....as I lay awake again in the wee hours of the morning because of this wierd sensation which goes on every night now and has me so sleep deprived I can hardly think and feel I will lose it if it continues...seriously I feel my thoughts are going in a bad direction, I am sosoooo tired..I mean this has gone on till 2 or 3 in the morning most nights....I truly can't take much more I am starting to feel sick in many ways......I am now trying to figure out if it is something i am doing, eating new, so I pulled this thread up to see my timing of it ( this site has been so great for that type of thing for me where i can look back at my posts and trace stuff) anyway I started a new progesterone cream the very day it started....and I had about a 4-5 day period where I didn't get it a week ago and it was my time off the cream..........could it cause this and if it is why would it and why is it only affecting my sleep, wouldn't I get this during the day.......I am sure I am grasping at straws , but could it be related or just coincidence?
