Hi, I'm 56 years old. Went from Sept. 07 to Dec. 08 with no period. Had bloodwork in Sept., 08 indicating I was post-menopausal. In Feb, had light spotting for a week. Went to gyn in March and he did a transvaginal ultrasound. Everything looked good, uterine line only 3mm. He said I had 2 small fibroids but he didn't think they were causing any problems. He wasn't too concerned about the spotting but said to come back if it happened again. Well, in early April I started getting all the PMS symptoms I used to get - mainly tender breasts and heaviness in pelvic area and slight cramps. Around mid-April, sure enough, I started a regular period. At first it was just spotting, then got heavier with two heavy instances that lasted less than an hour. Now, breast tenderness is gone, but I am still spotting 3 weeks later. Will see my gyn on Friday and I'm sure he'll want to do a biopsy. Since my lining was so thin just a month ago, I'm not too worried. Is it common to get a regular period after 15 months without, especially since lining was thin a month ago? Why would I still be spotting 3 weeks after it started? Thanks, in advance, for all feedback.

I saw your post of May 6th. I'm 50 and had a 6 day "period" starting April 12th, 2009, after 27 months post menopause. I freaked! I had actually had an ultrasound pelvic done in August last year and a colonoscopy and CT scans bec of chronic lower abdo/pevic pain so here I was again last Friday having another ultrasound which came back no different than the previous one with a thickness of 2mm ---quite thin and not alarming to the doctors, I inferred.

What they told me is to contact them if there is more bleeding but, anyway, I am seeing my doc on June 2, 2009, bec I want to more information. I am still very worried as the chronic pelvic pain is miserable and persistent at times although there's been no more spotting. The pain I had last year seemed to subside for about 5 months and here we go again!

Anyway, if you care to compare notes I'd be happy to do so.

I had a normal period after 14 months of no periods. My GYN said it's not uncommon. She said since I had all the pre-period symptoms - tender breasts, retaining water - she thinks I spontaneously ovulated, and then had the period. She did a biopsy just to be sure, but everything was fine.

I haven't had any bleeding since. Yea! I am so glad not to have periods. I have more energy.

22 months with no period and now, having shown all the signs like sensitive breasts, discharge, water weight, tiredness, mild cramping, crankiness, today I noticed brown and now definite spotting/pre period goop. This meno thing is for the birds. I was so happy when the hot flashes went away, I really thought it was because I was almost 2 years in to meno. I will call the doc tomorrow to see what they say. sad.gif

I had a period after 14 mos. Like WriterMom it was a normal period. Haven't had one since, and it's been over a year. I feel so much better NOT having periods I can't even believe it!!

Same here! I still say I'm over two years post, even though the clock is reset when you have a period tongue.gif

I called the doc and have an appointment next Monday to get it checked out.

I do too, Gia. I'm pretending that middle one didn't count! LOL

I went to gyn in June and she wanted to do a hysterectomy. I'm glad I didn't have it done (can't afford, my insurance doesn't cover everything) because again the pelvic pain went away. I've had no more periods since the April one but still get hot flashes and break out like a teenager suddenly every month. So my body is still winding down from the hormone rushes. I think some of the pain is related to digestive problems, actually, so I'm working on altering my diet. Good luck to all of you and here's to no more surprise periods. Frankly, they are the pits.
