Okay. Here's a new one for me. I always have vertigo to some degree, a little off-balance feeling like my right ear is stuffed up and sinus pressure. The day before my period started this month I woke up with "vestibular neuritis" or labrynthitis. It was extreme vertigo like I was spinning on a merry-go-round. I woke up with my three children after my husband had left for work and couldn't open my eyes or lift my head without having to throw up from the vertigo. Scared the He** out of me!! My daughter who is 6 had to run and get me a trash can and bring me the phone to call my husband. I really don't think it is a coincidence that this happened along with my other crazy pre-menstrual symptoms. I always get a migraine with an aura during this time, but this severe vertigo is a first. My ENT is going to do a test for Meniere's disease, which is an inner ear disorder. I know lots of ladies on here have mentioned dizziness as part of the whole peri process. Anyone had anything like this?? I'm getting so discouraged! Seems like every time I think I might be getting a handle on this thing, it rears its ugly head in a new direction and blindsides me!!!!
I experienced a 3 hour episode of vertigo last summer. ENT could never pinpoint the cause. It can be caused by an inner ear virus. The ER Dr. also thought it could be thyroid related. My thyroid tests are in the normal range, but borderline. I had been off thyroid meds because some of my Drs thought they could be causing panic attacks/anxiety, but I went back on them, and so far no recurrance...maybe coincidence, maybe not.
I do know of one other person who experienced entire days of vertigo in her peri phase.
Hope this helps.
