Has anyone had an ultrasound for enlarged uterus? My gyno wants me to get one because of my big belly. I think she is just being careful. I haven't had a period in over 2 years so why would my uterus be enlarged? I'm sure its just the meno big belly, weight gain thing going on but I was wondering what the science behind it is.

I think she's wanting to see if you have a thickened endometrial lining and get a look at your ovaries maybe?

Oh .. and meant to say, yes I did have an ultrasound because of my excessive bleeding, and it did show an endometrial lining that was too thick.

I just had one about a month ago. I had never had one before and didn't find out till I got there that it was INTERNAL. blink.gif So be aware yours might be also. It was like a pelvic exan with a "dildo." I don't know any other way to describe it. Sorry! The tech also did an external ultrasound which to me was more uncomfortable than the internal one because she was pushing down SO HARD. I actually had a bruise down low next to my hairline! I was very sore for several days. The tech was a woman by the way. I hope I never have to go through that again. Hopefully your tech won't be so rough with you. I'm not trying to scare you, I just think I had a bad experience with mine. rolleyes.gif

Mine was only internal. I thought it was interesting watching the monitor and having the tech point out where my ovaries were, etc. I didn't find it invasive at all -- and we joked around a lot about the "wand." lol

I've had the internal ones, and the external ones. I think all post meno women should have one, just to keep an eye on everything. Like Texas said, you might feel uncomfortable, but I didn't feel any pain at all and I've had a few of them.

Try not to worry.. it's a pretty standard test and you'll know exactly what's happening down there tongue.gif

I have to have a pelvic ultrasound next week and i was wondering the same thing. How long does the procedure last? I am getting my uterus checked for enlargment too. Let me know how it turns out.

I recently had a pelvic ultrasound, internal and external to get to the bottom of my heavy bleeding, no big deal. The results were a thick endometrial and an enlarged uterus.
From there I was sent for a hysteroscopy and an endometrial biopsy last Friday. Dr. said she saw one small fibroid and I have to wait to go back in two weeks for the results. Not happy about the wait... sad.gif
Does anyone know if one small fibroid could cause such heavy bleeding? My last period lasted for 3 weeks.

Fibroids and polps can cause bleeding issues for some women. Sounds like your doc is doing all the right things. Hang in there for the results.

Have had many (too many to count) pelvic ultrasounds over the past 2 years. The internal one is actually easier because you don't have to drink lots of water. Weirdest moment was when one female tech asked me to reach under the sheet and "guide" the wand in!!! I said "uh, no, I'm sure you know what you're doing." Funniest moment is in the new docs office. You walk into the room and see the darn wand, in an upright postition draped in a surgical glove until needed. haha Looks like its waving at you!! Ok, now to be more serious. They will put a condom on the wand/surgical ultrasound probe. Make sure you let them know if you have latex allergies/sensitivies and they will adjust accordingly. Also, I was so fascinated by watching the screen it went very quickly. The doc even gave me a copy of the ole ovaries and uterus. Said I was the first to ever ask for one. laugh.gif Hey, if they can give you a pic of the baby in the womb. Why not the retiring girly parts??? Regards to all, J.

Had the pelvic ultrasound today which I thought no big deal. Then, oh yeah, we gotta do internal one too. Wasn't painful or anything and was only suppose to take a few minutes. After tech played around for awhile she called in someone with more experience. She played around for awhile seems they couldn't see whatever they wanted to see very well. Maybe it was because after drinking all that water I couldn't urinate much when I did get the chance to go? I was there for awhile then started getting nervous. Shaking/anxiety started and I couldn't wait to get out of there. Is this a normal expeience? I guess I'll hear in a couple days when my dr gets the results.

Your experience sounds almost the same as mine about a month ago. It felt like the tech was in there forever and I started feeling a lot of anxiety also. My stomach started that churning on my left side and I kept praying I wasn't going to get gas right there on the table!! blink.gif OMG was I ever glad when she was done!

Everything turned out fine. I heard from my Dr. less that a week later. I do have a small cyst by my cervix but my Dr. didn't seem to be worried about it. smile.gif

I'm sure your test results will be fine also. Try not to worry. smile.gif
