Hi everyone I hope you are all doing well,

just a question.....I started eating ground flaxseed over the weekend, I have always eaten it in my bread, but started puting just a Tbs in some applesauce a few days ago since I figured there can't be that much in my bread to really help. I have had 2 panic attacks since Sun and many mild ones, after doing really well with my agoraphobia i am retreating again. I know I have posted recently about my mood which has been something disturbing, but I feel almost manic, I feel detached and almost don't want to leave the house again as I just don't feel right somehow really I haven't had panic like this for a long awhile, since this all started and I didn't know what it was....so as I always do I start to look at what I have done in the past few days and this is the only thing I can come up with...flaxseed. I really wanted to see if the flax at higher levels would help my mood...am I reacting to it funny? Has anyone ever heard of this? Thanks Mikki

I'm sorry I don't have an answer for you but I'm very interested in finding out if anyone here can give you an answer. I was thinking about buying some flaxseed myself. I'll be watching this post. smile.gif

Well...I started flaxseed and Fish oil about 5 weeks ago.I took them both together 1000mg each once a day.I began feeling yucky.Just fealt really low and my anxiety was starting to creep up on me again and I HATE THAT AWFUL FEELING mad.gif So I stopped taking the flaxseed and continued taking the Fish oil and fealt much better.A few days later I was doing osme internet searching and found out that Flaxseed works the same in the body as a phytoestrogen does and if you are estrogen dominant or are supplementing with E than this could make your symptoms rear their ugly head again or make them worse. To prove this I just took another flaxseed pill yesterday. My breast have been aching for days and I had my period 18 days ago so It's not PMS and I'm pretty sure my E is high right now so today I fealt not so good.Moody, teary, insecurities..anxiety this afternoon. So I am gonna say it was the damn flaxseed. All I know to tell you is try it for your self.We are all so different. The fish oil works great for me..shiny hair..smooth skin and it has been found in studys to ease depression but so has flaxseed. So how knows really, I just know that I wont be taking flaxseed anymore dry.gif
Peace & Love,
T

I agree. It has estrogenic properties.

This really is interesting. I began taking 2-3 tablespoons of freshly ground flax seeds daily a couple of weeks ago and have never felt so good. For the first time in longer than I care to remember I feel ok (still not great) in the mornings. This is usually the worst part of the day for me, but I now seem to waken more relaxed with far less adrenaline/cortisol (not sure which) than usual, which is a minor miracle. Also feel much more stable in the blood sugar department which again is something I’ve always struggled with especially mid-afternoon.

I’d always though that flex seed was supposed to have a mildly calming effect, but obviously not for everyone. I am so sorry to hear that flax seed hasn’t worked for you as it would be great to think there was one thing out there that might make us all feel just a bit better, but I suppose it’s not that simple. Good luck with fish oil though, and I’ll let you know how I get on with my new seedy diet - who knows it may just be a flash in the pan, but here’s hoping.

Best wishes,
Vicki

It's working well for me too. I am a bit more upbeat and cheerful. I THINK I can pinpoint to the start of the flaxseed and fish oil regimen but I could be mistaken.

Interesting. I've been eating ground flax seed for years. Too long to remember if I feel better with it or without it but maybe I'll stop for awhile and see. My husband has 1T flax oil each day. He had a triple by-pass 9 years ago and begin flax oil then. Two caths later show that his pipes are unusually clean for his cholesterol levels. He swears it's the flax oil.

This is very interesting to hear all this. I have attempted 3 times and many months apart to take fish oil. The day I take it, the next day my anxiety is very bad and I feel very hyperactive or manic. I was getting ready to try it agiain her soon but that is crazy that someone else is getting that but from flaxseed.

Sorry to hear that some are having difficulties with the flax seed. I've been taking it for years, I usually make bread out of it and it calms me. Of course, my estrogen levels are still in the toilet so I have not noticed any adverse reactions. I usually have it between meals with peanut butter... The fish oil also calms me. However, my best friend had to reduce her fish oil dose because her hot flashes worsened when she started it but they have since gotten better so she upped the dosage a bit. Perhaps there is an adjustment period for some...who knows!

Of course, everyones body reacts differently but both are supposed to be very good for you!

maybe I have a slight allergy to it or something I seem to allergic/sensitive to many things lately. I bought different bread yesterday and stopped taking the flax meal so we'll see.

I have been on BHRT estradiol/estriol with progesterone for 2 mo. but don't know if that is helpinf or making things worse...it thought soy and flax evened out your estrogen like giving more if not enough or countering too much. My periods have been all over the charts for 2+ years and recently skipped one, but never are they light and when I skipped I doubled up the next mo. literally got one 4 days after the other stopped and they both were very heavy and my last just 10 days ago was like I was losing organs, my breast are so sore whiich I haven't had in some time, it stopped 4 days ago or so and now I feel achy again and have my usual dizzy/palpitations just befor a period again I feel like it is coming again. I syopped the BHRT yesterday not knowing what to do.....flax is so good for you what a bummer.....maybe I just have an estrogen oevrload, however blood tests show otherwise so what am I to do......Thanks for the replies MIkki

Dear Sunflower,

It just might be too much estrogen for your body, especially if you are using the soy products too, and as I said before flax seed is an estrogenic product as well. Perhaps you could stop using the soy and flax for a week and see how that goes...especially if you are getting the sore breaasts which for me is a sign of too much estrogen...

Then again, some may have allergic reactions to flax just as they do to wheat, etc. or it could just take time for some peoples bodies to adjust. If I have a reaction what I usually do is eliminate it for a week, then eat a clean diet and add that food back to see if I have the same reaction! If I do, then I try to avoid it from that point on!

Could this possibly be what's wrong with me. Feel TERRIBLE today! EXTREME FATIGUE! Just started taking flax seed again last night. A scoop with yogurt last night and a scoop this am with yogurt. SEARCHING, SEARCHING, SEARCHING for whatever is making me feel like this. Thinking that I may be estrogoen dominant... maybe flax exacerbates it ????? I'll try not eating any tomorrow.

Hi Mikki,

I just want you to know I've had the exact same experience just a few weeks ago. I thought I was mistaken because how could flax be bad for you, but after about 2 weeks taking it out of nowhere my anxiety levels and feelings of unreality went through the roof. I stopped as soon as I realized the correlation, but I still feel horrible and praying to God for this nightmare to pass.

Several years ago I was giving fish oil to my son who is bipolar and it made him hypomanic... a little research and I discovered that it can have that affect in someone with bipolar.
