Dear Lara
Totally agree with you about spider bites so am very vigilant about dusting carefully and washing floors etc.I suspect I have been bitten a couple of times on my face
I got rid of spiders by buying a special spray from a Hardware Store and then just being relentless about keeping clutter to a minimum as they love to hide in warm dark spaces..

~~~~~~~~~Spider Wars!~~~~~~~I recently bought a beautiful re-hab house. (...one of my many hobbies!)
Anyway, it had been sitting without occupants for about one year. It had become a haven for spiders.
No kidding!
Open a door and a spider would jump on you. The bad thing about these spiders was that they were brown recluse spiders.
I am freaked out by spiders, but to have thousands of brown recluse spider....YIKES! I was bitten by one several years back and had to go on predizone and antibiotics. It was bad.
This is what I did to get rid of them and it worked wonderfully! I have NO spiders in this house now.
I bought spider glue traps.
It was disheartening when I checked the first one and saw that a live spider had avoided the glue and set up house inside it; however, when I looked at the other traps, I was elated! There were many dead spiders inside. I saw one web site where you could buy 50 of these. I only had 12, so I was constantly moving them around.
I vacuumed everything from the top of the ceiling down to the carpet. This was highly effective. I used a shop vac.
I vacuumed every few days.
Then I dusted the baseboards with DE Powder (fossil shell powder.) I used food grade. It is not poisonous and safe to use around people. (just don't breathe it) It is also effective on ants, mites, & etc. It is wonderful stuff.
The plug-in sonic pet chasers seemed to help also. I rotated them from room to room.
I am pleased to say that I won the spider war! My family and I did not get any bites and they are dead!
I hope this helps,
Shebee
