For about a week I have had a heaviness in my chest, almost as though I am getting a cold (or my allergies are flaring up) but it never actually turns into anything more than an annoying heaviness. I don't notice it at all when I am eating. I have also started to get a metallic taste in my mouth. I can't tell if it's a metallic taste or a tingling that just seems like it's a metallic taste.

Anyone care to calm my fears about these symptoms?

I have also had an itchy skin rash on and off for a few months. I had an endometrial ablation in December and I was very very anemic before that. My hemoglobin has since rebounded and is a steady 13 or so.

also, the heaviness in the chest comes and goes...it is not a constant thing?? It all seems very hormonal to me but I really don't know.

Hi Eileen,
I see you are new. WElcome to PS!

I'm sorry to say that I don't have a clue what could be causing your symptoms. The only time I had a metallic taste in my mouth is when I was on the antibiotic Biaxin, which is known for that.

Have you been to a doc about the chest heaviness? It's worth checking out.

If you look up on the internet, burning tongue syndrome, you will find this to be a common hormonal imbalance complaint. Not only could you have the burning feeling but it also talks about the metallic taste.

Hi this is my first post. Just wanted to let you know that I have been having a metallic taste in my mouth and a tingling sensation in my mouth on and off since February, it seems to get worse when I am anxious. My tongue also has a funny burning feeling, it also has a red tip, which again gets worse when I am feeling anxious.

I have visited my Dr about it and she said my tongue is called geographic tongue and the tingling, burning and metallic taste can all be linked to stress, anxiety and hormones!

Hope you get some relief soon, as it can be quite annoying can't it.

As for the heaviness in the chest, i haven't experienced this so can't offer any advice. Perhaps a visit to the Dr will put your mind a rest.

Take care

I believe the 'metalic taste' is to do with the adrenals....I may be wrong, but I have had that taste and my adrenals are pushing out too much cortisol.

Just a thought.

Do you feel any indigestion or heartburn???
I'm thinking it might be Acid Reflux. When I had untreated AR I had a heaviness in my chest (worse when eating) and the metallic taste was from acid coming up the esophagus into the back of the mouth.
That said, I have read that metallic taste can also be hormonal. But then, so is AR.....!!!!

I have had both of these symptoms and in fact, have been experiecing chest heaviness for many weeks/months now! No fun!!! I did get an EKG and chest xray when it first came up - those were fine.

The metallic taste was attributed to "burning tongue" which is very hormal in nature. Mine came a couple of times but never lasted more than a couple weeks each.

I hope you get relief soon. Kathleent

Thanks for all the help everyone! The metallic taste has gone (for the most part), I still get the heaviness in the chest, some days are bad some I don't have it at all.

I think I am going to visit an endocrinologist and have some blood work done. The symptoms I am having (in addition to the ones I listed...rapid heartbeat, weight gain....) are typically thyroid in nature so maybe my thyroid is out of commission???

The metallic taste is worrisome to me. Many people report this days/weeks prior to a stroke. Please see your MD soon.
PS, if you have a heavy chest feeling, and you take an antacid and it goes away, it's just a little indigestion. If it's still there... and doesn't go away, still worrisome.
I'm sorry I wish I could be more reassuring.
