I just had my yearly physical today and told my OB that I had pain with intercourse. It has just happened in the last few months and before that I was fine. She did some blood work to see where my hormones are but I won't find out the results until later in the week. She did give me a prescription for vaginal inserts that are Estrogen based. i am unsure of the name as I can't read her writing. Anyway, has anyone taken these before? She said it was a low dose but I was reading side effects on line and most are ok EXCEPT for the migraine headaches. Has anyone taken a low dose estrogen cream and had migraines? She did say that if I did not like it, to stop taking it and she will talk to me later with the test results. I know everyone is different and I could take this med and be fine. I guess I just like to research my medicine before I take it. I am also not going to fill the script until I get my test results back and I talk to her more.

It depends on if the estrogen is bioidentical or not as to which, if any, symptoms you might get. Do you know the exact name of the inserts of the type of estrogen it is? Can you call the pharmacy or take the Rx there just to ask what it is?

I used Estrace vag. cream which seemed to be very irritating so I quit. I am now using Ovestin, and estriol cream (weaker estrogen). It seems to be working better without the side effects, but I'm cautious because there were a couple posts here awhile back from someone who said just taking the estriol vaginally made her an emotional wreck with some other symptoms, so I'll see how it goes.

While the effects of vaginal inserts and creams are supposed to be mostly local, studies show, and the symptoms of many women prove, that it does go systemic.
