I was just wondering if I could get a few ladies to respond. I am 51 years old, having periods, but just unpredictable, they seem to be shorter intervals, but longer duration.

I am wondering if I could get a general consensus on when your periods started to get erratic and then cease. Any help or information is so appreciated.

Late 40's.......I mean really late like 48 or 49. But even then still normalish, with a missed one here and there or once or twice having them come only a couple of weeks apart. FTMP, mine just stopped.

38 for me, I still have them but only 1-3 a year and they are very light and only last about 3-4 days

40 for me (last year); skipped Apr and May last year, Jun was light; then July started periods lasting up to 4 weeks at a time. Have 10 days off and then start again for another 4 weeks. This lasted up until 3/15/09; haven't seen anything since then.

Mine were like clockwork till about a year ago. Now they come about every 40-70 days. I'll be 55 next month. rolleyes.gif tongue.gif rolleyes.gif

My periods were pretty normal, albeit heavy for a year then around January last year they started to skip a month or two here and there. Then spring last year (May, I think...) they just stopped. I would totally forget that I had missed periods until someone would complain about theirs.
So that would have been three months before my 50th birthday.

I'm odd, but I tracked everything closely from about 2005 onwards. 2006, I was 46/47 and my cycles were starting to change, missed three periods and longest time between periods was 51 days. Normally they would range from 2 to 5 days in duration.

2007 when I was 47/48 is when all hell broke loose and I knew the end was near. I missed seven periods, stretches between cycles were 28 up to 93 days. That last one, 93 days, was the period from hell. I bled for 9 days, heavy and like a spigot, it turned off completely.

Haven't had a period since September, 2007 and I'll be just shy of 50 when that two year mark comes around.

They started getting erratic at 36 and stopped at 48. It was a long haul LOL biggrin.gif At 49 now and feeling MUCH better!

started getting closer together and somewhat lighter at age 45, then stopped completely at 47 and a half......reckon they stopped early because of the undue stress I have been under and adrenal issues. I am 49 now but am still dealing with the adrenal issues, high E, P and T (which is being overproduced by the adrenals)...about to start taking some supplements to take control of that.

For me periods got heavier and closer together - about 24 days - around age 35. Stayed like that until about 44, then started coming every 90 days....still were heavy. Then had one really light period and poof, gone, never seen another...I was 46. I am now 48, 2 years without periods.

This is all great information.

I had noticed some slight changes during my early forties. Periods became heavy and PMS was horrible. My cycle seemed shorter. At about 45, I had surgery and it involved removing my "right" ovary only. Even with one ovary still intact I began to REALLY experience changes affecting my moods and energy levels. I first started to skip periods at the age of 49. Last year (at 50) I only had 3 periods the whole year. I am on BHRT, and so far have not had another period since November '08. I have had some spotting, which felt like my body trying to have a period, but nothing.

I will be 51 soon, so I think I am at the end of peri. I seem to feel better now than I did 4 years ago. Could be the BHRT that helped me through.

Mine started acting up at about 37, coming closer together and heavy. Now at 45 (46 next month) they are getting further apart and much lighter. I keep hoping the end is near.

At around 50. Had about a year of what you are going through.

Hi,

I too am dealing with twitching on my head and internally- don't know what the source is. I am
going for an MRI today. It is distressing and hard to get clear cut answers. All my tests come
back normal- but I feel really bad. Started after taking an anti-biotic in Feb.- still continues
on and off. Doctors just don't know about menopausal issues.

Hang in there- and keep talking to the knowledgeable women on this site. They are our life line
