hi there, new to the boards. i'm 49, 3 years post meno and with all the other demons of lack o' estrogen, my face is getting older by the day, i do swear. within a couple of months, i have noticed my skin thinning and my dang face is showing up with a bunch of spider veins on only one side, yet i just can't believe it! what next, waking up crossed eyed?
anyone have a favorite facial skin cream that really works? i kinda liked avon's renew skin brightener until they upped the price, it took awhile, yet i saw a difference. trying olay regenerist, got a good deal and am hoping it does something.
i'm ready to put a huge sock from the top of my head to my itchy feet!

thanks gals

I have been using Olay Definity and have been satisfied. I also use a serum I bought online to help with wrinkles that seems to help a bit. I think short of a facelift there isn't a whole lot we can do about it, really. I did have some juvaderm injections a few months ago....loved that!! But too pricey to do regularly.

A friend of mine told me that her skin was aging really badly when her estrogen got low. She got it back up via soy products, etc. and now she looks great.

There is a topic on one of these forums where someone said that Olay Regenerist has some estrogen-type things in it. Apparently one of these fine ladies had started using it and her hot flashes decreased dramatically. So that might be the stuff you need to use.

Loss of estrogen breaks down precious collagen over time. I swear my aunts who took premarin for years had the most amazing skin.

I've tried the whole gamut of face cremes and serums and while I saw some improvement in texture and contouring, its all temporary. The gold standard is Retin A or Renova (for dry skin) for wrinkles. Copperpeptides and DMAE look promising for facial firming, but again temporary improvement. I'm not sure if there is gold standard for facial firming other than plastic surgery.

Also, Try vitamin K creme for the broken blood vessels, it does help to minimize them, although temporary. The permanant solution for broken blood vessels is laser treatment.

Two things work for me: self tanning...evens out the skin tone, and PINK blush - on the apples of the cheeks - light pink! I know it sounds weird but it brightens the face. Oh I forgot the number one thing - turtle necks or scarves - hahahahahahahahahahahahaha - I swear I will get me a face lift one day!!!

Olay regenerist, which I use, contain amino peptides which supposedly help with collagen production in the skin. I like it because a little goes a long way, & it seems to work well with my skin. I tried Roc, but the retinol was too irritating for me. I also find exfoliating once a week makes a big difference. It brightens up the skin by getting rid of the dead skin cells.

Here's a study that I found a couple weeks ago. There are some women who use the estriol on their faces and have had great results....

Estriol May Be the Real Key to Reversing Skin Aging

Scientific studies validate that diminishing hormone levels play a significant factor in aging of facial skin and that estriol represents a new and promising therapeutic approach. These studies show that estrogen's effects on the skin may include:

Greater skin thickness due to increased collagen production
Disappearance of fine lines and wrinkles
Better skin structure and elasticity
Greater vascularization (oxygen and nutrient carrying blood vessels)
Increased moisture content
Inhibition of excessive sebum (oil) production
In one such study reported in the International Journal of Dermatology, 59 women, average age 53, applied an estriol cream to their faces and necks. Most experienced positive results in just eight weeks, showing a significant reversal in the signs of aging within six months.

In 96%, skin elasticity and firmness improvement was significant
In 96%, skin moisture increase was significant
In 89%, wrinkle depth decrease was highly significant

Best of Luck,

I used estriol vaginal cream on my face and developed a brown spot (melasma)! Do you guys who use it on your face use it neat, or mixed in with moisturiser?

Were you using progesterone at the time? Because for sure P is the hormone that causes the melasma of pregnancy.

I use Ovestin cream and use it straight up. But I'm not consistent with it like I should be.

I was using progesterone - which I don't apply on my face - but had been using it for a year or so before using the estriol cream on my face at which time a brown spot appeared. Another brown spot had appeared in a different place on my face when I started oral HRT two and a half years previously (since given up). The oral HRT contained a synthetic progesterone but a bioidentical estradiol. Strangely enough, I didn't develop anything like this when pregnant, or during the times when I took the contraceptive pill earlier in life. It waited for peri to appear, just like everything else!

Do you use the cream as a moisturiser on those days you apply it? Have you seen good results? Applying the cream neat to my lips seemed to plump them up a bit (the same effect as on the region for which the cream's intended!). The thing is, the cream I have is only meant to be used twice a week vaginally. I wonder therefore if one shouldn't use it on the face any more often than twice a week.

My Mom used to wear the Walmart brand of "Oil Of Olay" for years and years. It's not expensive and she swore by it. Her face was always so pretty and soft. That's what I'm using now and I can't tell the difference between it and Oil Of Olay. I'm very happy with it. I also use it on the "age spots" on my hands and the darker spots have faded a lot. smile.gif

Boo...I love your sense of humor..........Don't ever loose it.

"wake up cross eyed" that cracked me up!!

hey skee! and all of the great ideas and suggestions..i think i have to get off of my self pity trip and face up to things...the only thing i don't like is some of this is unreversable
and i see the movie stars and the perfect "10"s on TV all the time, only to make matters worse. i swear someday i will just become a loner, and old chick that lost all her self esteem due to estrogen, geez, i'd eat it out of a jar at this point, if i could.
i at least got alot of info on this post and am thankful to each of you.
yes, is was thinking of tanning as a quick fix, i found a good foundation that covers this mess up, yet when it gets hot outside, it tends to wear off.
yeeeehaaa, today i'm bravely heading out the door with sunglasses,a neck scarf, gloves for my freezing hands, tons of makeup and i'll be back in a 1/2 hour.....i just need a gallon of milk....lol

I use Boots 'Refine and rewind' serum (get it in Target) and over that I put Oil of Olay Total Effects....and for the eyes I use Oil of Olays regenerist serum.

I have used these for a few years now, but sorry to tell you Boo Hoo.....my skin has also thinned a lot - I am also 49 and post by 20 months) and I am desperate to find a solution...especially for the eyes as the complete lack of sleep over the last 4 years has really shown up in my eyelids.....they are so crepey and droopy now!

I'm thinking of having an 'eye lift' preferably non-surgical as I am a wimp...anyone know of a good way to lift the eyelids??
