I have a large submucosal fibroid diagnosed six years ago. All along, my heavy bleeding has been attributed to that. On my last gyno visit, I mentioned that my periods were getting closer together so the gyno did a biopsy on the spot. The results are back and I am told I now have a uterine polyp and it is recommended to be removed via D & C. Could it be that my bleeding issues are being caused by the polyp? Will a D & C take care of the problem? Another doc I asked said that a D & C without a hysteroscopy is pointless.
Anyone been through this? I am very unsure of what to do at this point other than get yet another opinion from a new doctor.

I just had a D&C and hysteroscopy last week to remove a polyp and endemetrial hyperplasia. While in there, they found another polyp. I haven't gotten any results back from the D&C and go to see my doctor again next week so I'm currently just waiting for more information. But I was told that the polyps and the hyperplasia were reason for my heavy bleeding.

I believe polyps can cause excessive and out of cycle bleeding, however, not sure how endometrial biopsy can Dx polyp?
Hopw could she see polyp, was it hysteroscopy?
D & C will resolve the polyp for sure, and heavy bleeding along with it. It is a "blind" procedure, but they usually scarp out all uterine lining, so I can imagine they will take care of the polyp.
Hysteroscopy of course, is a good way to see what is in your uterus for sure, perhaps worth doing, as D & C also requires anastesia, so you can kill two birds.
I just don't udnerstand how the dr. determined that you had polyp, did they find different cells perhaps.
Good luck.

Yeah, I'm scratching my head about this too since they determined it through the biopsy. Did they just get lucky and scrape a polyp? Unfortunately, I can only talk to the nurse about it until I see the doctor again. The nurse is lousy at explaining things and seems to dismiss any questions I have. I asked her about the hysteroscopy but so far no response. I asked her if I should have another sonogram too with no response. They always get like that if I ask too many questions. I am really tired of thinking and talking about my southern hemisphere...

They diagnosed my polyp with an ultrasound and then did the endometrial biopsy to diagnose the hyperplasia. My doctor said that during the d&c they would remove the polyp first and send it off and then remove the rest of the lining to see if the hyperplasia was just around the polyp or part of the whole lining.

Yes they diagnosed mine the same way... The D&C did help the bleeding for a while.
