So I posted yesterday about my concerns of Prometruim. It was given to me to help regulate bleeding. I have been very well on Estrogel except for the 2 week periods. Doc just perscribed 200mg Prometruim to regulate. I am scared to death to take it for all the reading I have doing. She just changed it to 100mg. Now can I use that vaginally????? If so, are the side effects any better??? I am still scared to take it orally. Stress. Anyone with any knowledge on this subject? Help Please!

Hi there,

You can do a search on this question and you will find quite a bit of information.
I posted this same question not too long ago in the Progesterone section. There are a few ladies here who do use Prometrium vaginally with success.
I tried a few nights in a row and didn't like it. It is kind of hard to explain how I felt using it this way but it was kind of like period cramps/pains in my lower abdomen and down the front of my legs. I can say that I didn't have the lethargic feeling I get when I take it orally, but I didn't like the way I felt using it vaginally more so I went back to taking it by mouth.
I am taking 100 mgs/night.
I am in the process of looking for another type of P to take because I'm just not happy with the Prometrium. Side effects I get from it are; aches in muscles and joints, accumulative lethargy, slight down mood (again, more of these feelings the longer I take it), digestive issues and ravenous hunger.
I need the E for sure and I also know that I have to take P with it, so I'm working on it.
Have you tried the Prometrium at all yet?
There are lots of ladies who take it with no issues at all and if you get nasty side effects from taking it orally, give it a try vaginally.

I have not tried it yet. I am such a chicken. I was soooo miserable for so long till the Estrogel and now that I feel improved, I just don't want to take the chance to feel like crap again. But if I am taking E and getting periods.....then I need the P??

Yes, you need the P!!!!!
Let's say you try the Prometrium for a while (take it at night, for sure because it will help you sleep) and you don't like the way it makes you feel, you can try it vaginally and see how that works.
If you don't like that, there are other forms of P you can try. There's nothing to lose at this point. But you have to have progesterone to protect your body from the negative effects of the estrogen.
If you're getting your period still, you can cycle it.
There are ladies here who can help you with that, or ask your doctor how best to approach cycling.
