So since starting peri, my periods are becoming more irregular. The last 2 were 45 day apart but with 14 days of bleeding. I just started taking Divigel (estrogel) a few months ago. Alot of the symptoms are some what better but the bleeding is playing havoc on my life. The doc wants me to start with 200 mg Prometrium for 2 weeks then off. I am scared to death to start it. Just started feeling alittle better and when she said mood swings are possible........OMG. I cant take anymore of that. What should I do????

Can you ask her for a lower dose, that is a lot for some women...especially since it is a gel cap... Does it come in 50 mg??? The only other suggestion would be compounded and you can talk to Pete about that... I take a sublingual from him that I break in 1/4s or 1/2s sometimes... Right now the full pill is too much for me!

Also, did she test your levels in the follicular and luteal phases to see what your estrogen and progesterone are? If you are still ovulating then you should be making enough so that amount may cause more than some mood swings...it could cause bloating and a lot of other pregnancy type symptoms!

There are several threads about progesterone from many women who are struggling to use it!

What would happen if I would not take it. What are the dangers of taking Estrogel, getting periods and no P?

Taking estrogen only without progesterone increase your risk for developing uterine and/or breast cancer.

So could I take those 200 mg vaginally? I wonder if I would be better off getting the Progest cream instead?
Juliann
I don't think you should take 200mg vaginally, that is WAY to much. Prometrium is 100mg each, right?? So take only one per night and see if it helps! If you start to have a bad reaction then you could just stop and talk with your doctor about other choices.

Taking otc progest cream??? Would not protect your uterus. But I think that as long as you are having periods and shedding, you should be okay w/o to much P. I have not used P in several months, but now I have skipped my period since November so I am back on the 100mg prometruim, hoping that I don't have bad reaction.

Hope you feel better soon.

Why don't you try 100 mgs. of Prometrium and see how you feel.
I take this amount with 1 to 1.5 mgs of estradiol (Estrogel).
Take it at night because it will probably calm you and help you sleep. If there are any negative side effects you will notice them a couple or three days into it.
Some ladies do OK with 200 mgs. I know I would not, so to be on the conservative side give the 100 mgs. a try.
Good luck.....You do need the P if you're taking E.
