just wanted to post on this subject - did you know back in the 1800 "s they put women with bad menopause symtoms in mental asylums- told realitives and children that the woman had died !! thats unbeleivale , ive read stories how the husband went along with it and just remarried younger woman , we,ve come a long way in 100 years ,but we gotta keep it up , so our grand daughters and great grand daughters can have an easier time then us- i wouldnt wish this on my mother -in-law !!!! i think who needs to be educated the most are the doctors- just like in the 1800s the dr.s could not find the answers to our health symtoms and just marked it as " all in our heads " lock em up , throw away the key-i feel blessed that i wasnt born 150yrs ago , cause im sure i would have been a permanent resident on there looney farm- and probably sharing a room with my mother-in-law ... lol

Hi NC:

I agree with you whole-heartedly. I love to read and have read many a book set in the 1800s and am just amazed at the women I read about who are having horrible menopause and wind up in the mental ward.

I have to admit, there are days when I feel like I ought to be there. Thankfully, today is not one of them.

I'm with all of you! And yes drs should be more educated. I go see my gyno tomorrow about all this meno stuff so I guess I'll see what she has to say.

My mothers aunt, was taken away by two men in clean white coats. My mom said that she just totally lost it. And she was of the grand age of meno. And she was gone for 2 years. YIPES.....Now as my mom has watched me go through my meno. SHe is for sure that that is what happened to her auntl. My only hope is that it will only last 2 years, like my great aunt.

Your poor aunt!!! And to think with the proper treatment she could have avoided that two years of what was, I have not doubt, pure hell.

We are lucky, and some things have improved - at least they don't lock us up anymore! Although admittedly there are days when we lock ourselves up!!
