Is there a brand or type of magnesium that does not cause diareaha? I love the way I feel with 500mgs, but when I take it it causes me to RUN to the bathroom with extreme cramping and the trots. Thanks in advance.

Gia- if you take it WITH calcium it should counteract the diarrhea, OR you can break your magnesium in half or in 3's and take it through the day. I heard that liquid magnesium has a less diarrhea effect, but I don't know.
Google "magnesium without diarrhea" and see if there is anything out there.

Hi there,
I read on these boards that a good way to absorb magnesium is through the skin. Epsom salts (magnesium sulphate) can be bought from the chemist quite cheaply. You’re supposed to add a cup of two to a warm bath and soak for a while - preferably a couple of times a week. I’ve tried it and have found it to be really relaxing. This might be a good option for you if taking magnesium in tablet form is causing you problems.
Good luck,
Vicki

You can also get magnesium oil, which you rub on your skin. Causes no digestive issues. Google it.

I have the same issues with mag so I started using the mag oil (from reading about it here!!!!). No trots, relaxes my muscles and puts me to sleep too.
I use it on my 13 year olds sore muscles that he gets from hockey and soccer.

Hi, I started with a much smaller dose and titrated up gradually over the course of several weeks. Initially, I too was running for the bathroom. Reducing it to a very small starting dose and titrating upwards worked for me. But I still split my 500 iu of mag 2 x per day. There is also a Mag-Tab SR (slow release) that I've tried and not had problems with. J.

I take Slo Mag or Mag Ox. I thought about the epsom salt bath. Weird that it was suggested. The oil sound interesting too.

I have IBS and mag would increase the frequency so I, too, have searched for what I can take that won't upset that aspect. I finally found a chelated magnesium that works for me. I take 1/2 in the morning after eating and 1/2 in the evening after dinner and I've had no problems whatsoever. I get mine through vitacost and they are inexpensive.
