hi,

i am so relieved to have found this site. I had no words to describe the electric shock or zap. i get it right through my body at night in bed and just as i am waking up. i had no idea it was menopause related. i have a mirena iud which releases progesterone so you dont get periods any more. i knew at 47 menopause was coming soon. but i thought it was all hot flushes and night sweats. i had no idea those electric shock episodes could be hormonal. or the twitches in my thumb and eyelid. lordy, lordy i've been worrying myself silly. i am in bhutan for a year so not able to see a dr about such things. this website has been an absolute godsend. i have emailed a girlfriend who is sending me a care package of hormones and Christian Northrupp's book.

But my question is, does anyone else have a sort of odd ache, like a clenching of the muscles, on top of the knees, and in their feet and hands. it can go on for days. nothing helps. not painkillers. not half a valium. its disconcerting rather than outright painful.
hoping someone recognises this highly inadequate description.

thankyou for this wonderfully reassuring site.

My hands and feet ache alot lately. I don't know if that's similar to what you are feeling. I have osteoarthritis in my knees and jaw, so there is pain there. Lots in my jaw. Maybe the damp weather is making it worse. I hope some of this helps.

Hello!
When I read others posts on this subject.. it sounds just like me! I too experience the zaps, jolts, electrical buzzes as well when trying to relax or upon waking (it was really bad last Aug - late Nov)... I know they are awful! I am here to tell you that it must be this crazy hormonal ride.. I have calmed down a bit, but I still get them most mornings!!

Are any of you on statins for high cholesterol? There are some neurological issues with statins that just aren't well known.

I was on lipitor until about three weeks ago. I read some awful stories online and decided I no longer wanted to risk taking them.

hi there:
i just read your post and thought i'd introduce myself to you. my name is shirley and i'm 48 years old. i am having some of the things you posted about as well. not my knee, but my feet and ankle area, especially the right is very tight and tingly. feels like electricity is running through my foot and my leg when i walk, and especially at night when i'm trying to get to sleep. i also have this tight feeling around my upper back, under my breasts and sometimes it's hard to take a breath. no advil, or tylenol or anything helps with the pain. so i just try to ride it out and pray to God that i don't have a blood clot or something. you take care, and hope to speak to you soon.

hi shirley,

so lovely to hear from you. i am bowled over at the number of women on this website who refer to these electric shocks. until i came on here, i didnt even know the words to begin to describe it. nor had i ever heard anybody refer to such a bodily sensation. what a relief to find it is (relatively) common. i have just started yoga and the deep stomch breathing does seem to help if i remember to do it in the middle of the night. it also seems to stop the odd sort of buzzing i was getting in my foot.

thankyou, thankyou, thankyou to you and the other women who have so genereously shared their experiences. i cannot begin to describe the peace of mind it has given me.
