hello all,

Last week I had an my ultrasound done. I have not spoken to the doctor directly, but the nurse said she wants to schedule a D & C. The lining of my uterus is thickened and there is a polyp. The nurse did not say anything about a byopsy, but I will talk to the doctor next Thursday. I am just nervous because I don't know what would cause this. I know it can be caused by the buildup of estrogen, but my bloodwork all came back normal which I assume that meant no hormonal balance. Has anyone else had this experience?

God Bless,
Kate

hello kate,

this is my very first post here although i have been lurking and reading for the past few months now. first of all, i wanted to reassure you that most likely everything you are going through will be ok. i say this because of what i've just been through. my last normal period was in jan. in feb, i skipped a period...the first ever without being pregnant...and no, i'm definitely not pregnant. so at the beginning of this month, i thought i started. it was very, very light bleeding for 11 days when i finally went to see my doc. he did an ultrasound and also saw that the lining of my uterus was thickened. he said it was in line with the fact that i had missed a period. he also did a biopsy. i hate that word because for some reason, it always makes me think of the dread C word. i am a very anxious person outside of peri so i tried hard not to think about this. in the meantime, while waiting for biopsy results, i was prescribed progestin to take for 10 days to get me back on a normal period. but before i started taking it, i began to bleed VERY heavily for 4 days. in the past few weeks, i started feeling worse and worse and the bleeding topped it all off. i felt weak, some nausea, just not me! it was awful. so he prescribed estrogen to take for a few days until the bleeding stopped. it stopped immediately after i took my first dose. so i took that for 3 days. i began to feel so much better! at the same time, i started the progestin. the side effects i am experiencing now is severe fatigue and mood swings. i am trying to hang in there since i only have 6 more days to take it. i am 45 and pretty sure i am in peri but the side effects of the progestin are awful. i hope that when i finish taking it, i will have some normalcy again but from reading on here, it looks like i may be experiencing fatigue and mood swings regardless. one weird symptom that bugs me and i've just developed is this weird feeling in my legs. my doc blows it off but my legs feel kinda achy/tired like esp when i'm in bed. ugh! oh i almost forgot. the results of my biopsy was proliferative endometrium. the growing of the lining of my uterus. whew! i was relieved to learn what that was. also, my twin sister recently had the same thing except she had the polyp. they gave her a hysteroscopy and she is doing fine now. hope all will be fine with you and i'm pretty sure it will be.

this board is such a great comfort and resource for our "transitional" years. so glad to find it and all the wonderful ladies!

take care,

Dont be alarmed about the polyp. I had one removed 3 years ago.
It is just one of those things women have to suffer. Mine was found at my smear.
Had it removed at the local hospital it took about 40 minutes no big thing. They are usually begnign.
I understand how worried you are I was the same until it was over but you will be ok

Hi Kate,

I know how hard it is to wait on these kinds of things! Chances are overwhelming that you are just fine! Please try to put the matter out of your mind until you know for sure... Please keep us all in the loop. We are here for you.

Very best,

I know this is hard and I agree with the other wonderful ladies that you are most probably fine but doctors like to be sure. It is good that you are getting checked out.

I went through this last fall and it is difficult but when I found that I am perimeno and not had cancer, I was thrilled. It made this whole ride a little easier to take.

Hugs to you,
Kate

Thanks so much. I appreciate your all of the reassurances. I am really trying to not think the worst, but will feel better when I know for certain what I am dealing with. I asked the my gyn. twice now about perimenopause. He says it is unlikely and that my irregular periods are most likely stress. At least they are finally investigating this so hopefully there will be some answers for me.

Take care,
Kate
