I am not sure which one is causing this side effect but I am noticing frequent bowel movements every morning and increasing as I use them more. This is awful. I don't know if it is the estrogel or prometrium?? Any one else having or had this trouble using bio-identicals??

Yes, and I'd say the Prometrium for sure.
I don't have a big problem with it because it's a good thing to "move" more than once a day. But, when I have not taken the Prometrium, I go back to less and how else can I say, less easily passed movements.....:-O
It sounds like you're having trouble with it though.
Could it be that you have a bug of some sort?
How long have you been on the bios?
I'm taking the same as you, continuously.... 100 mgs. Prometrium and 1.5 Estrogel.

Hi Valerie and thanks for the quick reply. Have you contacted your doctor about this problem?
I contacted mine and he said it's probably the prometrium and wanted me to switch to aygestin and I won't do it because it is a non-bioidentical. So confusing....

Cathy, thanks for your quick reply also!! I am on day 15 of using estrogel and prometrium continuously and the exact same dosage as you are taking. This is awful because I can't even leave the house until around 11 a.m. any more! I'm not sure what to do...continue using these or not....It seems as though I am exchanging symptoms for other symptoms. It's not easy is it?
Floater
Camp, there is a chance that your body will become used to this eventually and you will stop. In the meantime you could try taking immodium at the same time you take the prometrium, perhaps that will slow things down.

Hi there,

No, it's not easy that's for sure.
I wonder, what was your situation before the Prometrium? Any changes to your diet???
Some ladies have a difficult time with it; gas, cramps, etc. and it is true what Floater is saying. You may need some time to adjust to it.
I guess it depends on how bad it really is. I am not suffering like you are. But, I'd say to give it a bit more time to see if it gets better and I'd check with your doc.
Certainly, you cannot continue with this side effect indefinitely.
I hope you don't have to deal with this for long. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Good morning.

I have been thinking about this (always trying to figure this darned Prometrium out) and was wondering if maybe you have trouble digesting the peanut oil that is in the capsule.
Just a thought.
It does upset my GERD after a while. Something to think about.

I have been taking the E alone for the last week and the bowel problems had gotten worse......the compounding pharm. said he thinks its the E doing it....so yesterday I took just 1/4 of the E and didnt have a problem........now this AM I used just a 1/4 of the E dose and have gotten anxiety in the hour following......so Im thinking Im going to stop these BHRTs....so confusing.......but I have given them about 3 and 1/2 wks........Valerie

Cathy, I did not have any bowel issues before the bhrts and the more I continue the worse it has become. No change in diet either. As for the peanut oil, my guess is as good as yours, it could be. Today I have decided I am quitting cold turkey. I hope it doesn't make me feel worse with the other symptoms but considering I have only been on it for 18 days, I am going to give it a go. I tried to contact my doctor but they aren't good in getting back to patients quickly. I wanted to ask to try vaginal progesterone instead to see if that would make a difference. Thanks for your help.

Valerie, are you going to quit cold turkey? The estrogel didn't seem to bother me but it is hard to pin point if it is the E or the P causing this symptom. So I figure I will just quit and pray my body starts to function as it did before the bhrts. Just hate the thoughts of being up all night with the night sweats again. I guess I just traded off menopause symptoms for other symptoms after using bhrts. Good for some, not good for others. Let me know how if you are going to wean from them or quit as I am cold turkey and how you feel after wards. Thanks!
scaredvalerie
I just used 1/4 of the E yesterday and today.......so maybe Im weaning........but pharm. said that E only stays in your body for 10hrs or so Im not to worried about it.......the P I havent used for days at a time and I hadnt had a problem with that....I might still use the P at night Im just not sure.....Valerie
