Hi ladies,
It all started with dry palm with cracks, redness and itchiness sometime last November. Condition got worst about a month ago as both palms and fingers became really scaly dry, redly inflamed, uncontrolled itchy bumps like hives and painful cracks. I have tried most otc hand moisturisers and cream to no avail and last week gotten to see a skin specialist. The diagnosis is hand eczema and that I should stay off water and all sorts of washing detergent, soap etc... The steriod ointment and moisturiser prescribed did not help much and it was really frustrating. I am disheartened now. Just wondering if this is part of hormonal change of peri? Once again, I appreciate your kind help. God Bless. blessy

I know for me that it is a symptom of perimenopause. Every night before I go to bed my hands become inflamed and itchy. i had no clue what was going on but my doctor said that it was a symptom of it, so i try to keep my hands very moistened. My mother in law bought an otc lotion for me that the men at her job use when they have been working with cutting wood- cutting wood dries out hands.

I never had trouble of any kind with my skin until I entered peri. About 3 years before my last period I started having the itchy skin and breakouts and at the time it started on my lower back, my arm and even on my eyelids. I would scratch so hard it would bleed. I tried benedryl which didn't help and I went to a dermatoligist and he gave me a shot and some expensive ointment. That didn't work either. At the time I didn't have insurance and it cost me almost $400.00 between the office visit and the meds. He told me it could be due to stress. Heck yes, I was stressed at the time going through peri! Anyway, even after 3 years post, it still flares up a little on my forearm, but my family Dr. gave me a prescription called Betamethasone Dipropionate cream and it cleared it up. If it does flare up I usually apply it once or twice a day for two days and it clears up. He told me to mix it with vasoline when I apply it and it is the only thing that has helped me. I hope this may help you.

I had this a few years ago. Been in peri for almost 10 years. It was on my hands, inside of my arms and inside of my thighs. I thought I would go insane with the itching. Doctor said it was changes due to aging process (she could have just said peri). Anyway, I used to lotion three times a day every day for I dont know how long. It eventually passed and I have not had it again so far.

I have eczma on my right hand. It started a couple of years ago and the doctor said it was
an allergy to something. Eventually i figured out it was potato starch causing it, so no more
peeling potatoes for me unless wearing rubber gloves. It cleared up and was fine. Now it is
back again same place so I am using a barrier cream daily before doing anything.Found bubble bath,
shower gel and shampoo can make it worse so i try to only use shampoo with rubber gloves on first.
hope this helps

I had dermatitis on my hands from about 42 to 50. It got so bad that I used to rub my itchy fingers on the rough wall paper at the back of the bed, in my sleep! I had to wear rubber gloves with a special anti allergic lining for everything!
At menopause it all stopped, thank goodness. My hands are now back to normal.
It is amazing that this is all down to hormone imbalances. Interestingly my daughter started using a BCP called Yaz and developed dermatitis. We are definitely not dreaming this up ladies! biggrin.gif

I have this, but not on my hands. It started a few months ago, front of
one leg, a patch and both of my legs at the back. Doctor said it looked
like eczema. It itches like mad, is dry and red. Im assuming its part of
peri, another lovely symptom!
