I have most of the symptoms going on right now. The mood swings, irritablity, shaking/tremors (inside and out), intense hot flashes day and night, waking up often from sleep with weird sensations, depression, anxiety, etc. I even found a burning tongue sensation on the symptom list that I had for a couple weeks! I've been dealing with all this craziness for at least 4 years but the last 6 months have become almost unbearable at times. One of the symptoms I get somtimes, more lately, is that some noises will irritate the hell out of me. Distant noises, like someones radio somewhere, someone coughing, crickets or birds, tv too loud or too soft sometimes, phone ringing, someone just talking to me, etc, etc, etc. I just want to be put in a soundproof bubble at times. I know some of it is because of the mood swings and being irritable, etc but at times it I seem to be super sensitive to a noise. Does anyone else have this too?
I am so grateful I found this site and you ladies. I am new here and joined on my 52nd B-Day. I feel like I got a B-Day present when I found this site. I have learned so much from you. I thought I had some dreaded disease or I was going crazy. The symptoms just seemed too weird and off-the-wall to be anything else. Nobody seemed to understand. But I learned different and I'm not alone.
Thanks to all!

Hi there, count me in on noise irritation. I have hissy, pulsing tinnitus that sounds like jingle bells being shaken or glass shattering, to the beat of my heart. I can't stand water running in the sink or shower, the rustling sound of plastic bags sends me running, my dog barking hurts my ears and rubbing my head with my fingers irritates my hearing. I don't even like the sound of my own voice as that is also way too hissy!! Celica2

My husband turns the television up loud because he can't hear over the kids- this drives me absolutely batty. I am like do you think the world needs to hear what we are watching. He says he can't hear it and neither can the kids - it has to be me

Oh yeah surreallife, I can relate and today is one of those days!!! Course my moods not the best to begin with anyway, period due in 3 days :/
There have been times when I've been so overwhelmed by all the noise, chattering, radio, engine, etc. that I have wanted to jump out of the moving car just to get away from it before I scream!!!
You are far from alone.

Yes, I've had the noise sensitivity, light sensitivity, and learned to just go take a time out when that was happening... It would come and go but it was very difficult to handle, very! I just stopped jumping when my dd calls my name!
Peace and Blessings,

Yes, Yes, YES!!! Noises drive me nuts now. And what makes it particularly bad is that I work in a machine shop now (I'm the "Tool Girl"). The noise is just unbearable at times. Thank god for the ear muffs I wear. Looks like I spend my spare time on a firing range, but they work. Loud traffic gets me too, and motorcycles.
Another noise on the hit parade is my mom's pot-beliied pig. She eats...well...like a pig. A combo platter of smacking and crunching that drives me up the wall, and Mom doesn't even notice it except to say "Doesn't she make that food sound GOOD?!" Makes me want to fry her up for breakfast...the pig, not Mom.

There are times when I feel so over-stimulated that I go into the walk-in closet in my bedroom and close the door! Noise drives me crazy, light drives me crazy, everything drives me crazy! And then it passes. I have written so many times (and I will write again--sorry) that the only thing predictable about this phase of life is unpredictability. What a system...
Hugs all around,

I know how you feel. believe me.
I live at my brother's part-time because of my job. The combination of the machine shop noise where I work, the traffic noise (the shop is on Interstate 10 and the only ventilation is to keep the doors open) and the ruckus in my brother's house (his daughter lives next door and is there with her 5-month old son a lot of the time) makes me want to scream. There's not even any place I can go to get away. My room at his house is also home to the family PC and my 15 year old nephew's drum kit.
Thank god my mom -- where I stay on weekends -- lives in the woods 18 miles from the nearest town and 3 miles down a dirt road. I've always looked forward to weekends, but NEVER like this! Silence is DEFINITELY golden these days!

OMG do I understand how you feel. Lately, I feel like I can't escape NOISE everywhere I go! Especially now - lawnmowers, leaf blowers, and screaming children outside. I holed up inside on a beautiful Memorial Day weekend with the shades drawn and the windows closed and a fan running, just to SHUT OUT THE NOISE!!!!!

Well, count me in too on this noise sensitivity. Thank goodness my husband does not have a hearing problem, so he does not have to have the TV up so loud. He has been so good to turn it down even lower when it is too loud for me. Every kind of noise gets on my nerves now. I think during peri we have a harder time bringing in stimuli for some reason. It is as if our systems can just take only so much going on at once.
I used to enjoy listening to the radio in the car, but no more! By the way if it were on, those songs I would hear would just "stick" in my mind anyway! Another great symptom of peri.... can't get songs out of our minds!
My dog is barking at the UPS truck right now as I type and I am about to go crazy!

this has recently happened to me at the grocery store, they were playing music over the p.a. and one part of the song the girl was just holding the note forever and i just about lost it !!!! it seemed like it was an un-natural note for like 30 seconds, i commented about it to the cashier ( teenager ) and she just said " ohhhh, i love this song " ------------- i give up !!!

I agree with all of you. I have very little tolerants for noise. There are some shops in the mall that blast their music so much that you cannot carry out a conversation... this places turn me off. The marketing people may think it helps with sells to have this kind of music but it you have teenage daughters with their perimenopausal/menopausal Moms...this is a real turnoff and I am more likely to RUSH my daughter and get the heck out of there!!!

My husband DOES have a hearing problem and it drives me nuts! He refuses to accept it and get a hearing aid. We can't watch TV together because he turns it up so loud, so he watches it in the bedroom with the door shut. Even then sometimes I can hear his TV over mine.

One pair for the home computer, one for the TV set... wax earplugs for bed and mp3 player with Fontopias for work.
I seem to rarely hear the *real world* any more but it saves my sanity!
