Each month since the first of the year I've taken a tumble. Yesterday was March's trip of the month. January did in my left shoulder, February got my adductors (splits anyone?) and yesterday wiped out both kneecaps and added a nice twist to my back. And each fall irritates the previous injury as well as making it more difficult to keep from falling. What a freaking clutz I've become! If it weren't for all the yoga, pilates and weight work of the past years it would probably be a lot worse.

I can understand how the biggest fear of women over 65 is falling - but at the rate I'm going by 65 I should be over it.

NN...I can sure identify, although doing my Jazzercise Classes and weight training has helped cut down on the amount of falls I was taking, I still do a whoop de do every few months. The last bad one I had was going down a spiral staircase. I had on flip flops and the staircase was metal and my flop flipped me down and I wrenched my rotator cuff. UGH. Very painful. That happened in July 08 and then I tripped on a pot hole in the grocery parking lot, November of 08 ,and went down on said injured shoulder and I re-injured my self. I've been doing okay lately. No falls!! But, I pay close attention to the kind of shoes I have on and also, I had a bad sinus infection when I fell in the grocery parking lot. I was dizzy and lost my balance. Aging, illness, foot wear, balance issues..Gak...does it ever end!!

According to my Jazzercise instructor, working on one's balance is very important as we age. We do a lot of core strengthening routines in class. Also, I have high blood pressure, and there have been a couple of times when my pressure wasn't controlled and I have fallen from dizzyness.

I wish you smooth walking in the days ahead!

NN...Another thought! Could be vision issues?! That's a lot of falls since the first of the year. Have you been checked out?

You're right - the bifocals are probably off-center now if they weren't before. I'll stop in tomorrow. Thanks, I never think about them and they do mess up my vision when the focal center is off because they are blended.

Have you tried Arnica cream on your shoulder? I use NatraBio "The Rub" petroleum free (FrozenTundra would approve) homeopathic cream that I order from Drugstore.com. It does improve muscle and joint pain and stiffness. I almost hate to mention it after the heated discussion about the Olay, which is probably all true.
