Full Version: Chafing gel as foundation primer?

I came across something that made be boggle and I just had to share. Okay ... so ... apparently ... some women use Monistat Chafing Relief Powder-Gel (not the stuff for yeast infections, but apparently some new product they have for chafing) as a primer before applying makeup to their faces. Have any of you heard of this? It's akin to the whole preparation h as eye cream concept -- or the Crisco as a moisturizer concept. I'm just wondering if it works, because these primers are expensive. lol I was turned on to the Smashbox Photo Finish primer recently and I really love it. But it costs a lot of money, and there are people saying this Monistat stuff is a "dupe" for that specific brand.

I came across this information, by the way, on a site that reviews makeup products. I went to the primer category to see how various ones stack up, and was dumbfounded to see the Monistat on the list of products reviewed. I thought it must be a mistake ... but nope. Further googling revealed a number of discussions about Monistat as primer.

Can it be? What do you ladies think? Ever heard of this or tried it? Are these Monistat fans on the crazy train or are they onto something? Would you, could you, put a chafing cream on your face?

Hugs and kisses,
Witsend

Hey cutie pie!! Okay... I bought some. I don't LOVE it but I don't hate it. It went on great, looked great after I applied my mineral powder, but by the afternoon I was shiny and looked BLAH. Maybe it was just ME?? laugh.gif But it looked like it absorbed all my powder foundation. I'm going to play with it more this weekend and see if I can get a better result. I think I might have used too much. I kinda slapped it on in a hurry laugh.gif tongue.gif Me in a hurry?? nahhh... LOL laugh.gif

Yes, I've used it, heard about it a year or two ago on some mineral makeup forum. It's primary "active ingredient" is a silicone-derivative, dimethicone. It makes a fabulous eyeshadow primer, keeps my mineral eyeshadow or liner in place all day without fading or creasing, and it's super economical.

Oh I hadn't thought of using it as an eyeshadow primer -- was using the urban decay primer potion.

Revlon makes a foundation primer also. Reasonably priced. Loreal just came out w/one too w/Diane Keaton being the spokesperson. I'll try anything she endorses!

Okay... so I'm not THRILLED with this as a primer, but in fairness I've never liked ANY primer. So... I'm getting ready for Easter dinner yesterday, and I'm going through my make up bag and I see my tube of the chafing gel, and remember this post. I put it on my eyes as a primer. LOVED it!! I got all kinds of compliments on my eye make up!! My daughter works for Chanel and notices make up on others, and she says to me "Mom... you're eye make up looks great!!" After I put it on, my brush just glided the shadow on!!

So I'm totally sold on this as an eye shadow primer!! Thanks Jasminetea for the great suggestion!!

Wow -- thanks Jasminetea for mentioning this, and Leanne for reminding us -- again. I need lots of reminders. lol I am totally going to try this for eyes. I've not been at all happy with the "real" eyeshadow primers, and they are so expensive.

On an unrelated note, because I am too lazy to go find the regenerist thread -- thought I would add that I found a Cover Girl makeup that has regenerist swirled into it. I tried it because it was on BOGO. I've only worn it twice so far, but I like it a lot, although in looking at the reviews (after the fact of course ) I saw that a lot of women complain about the color being too light. That's fine with me, because I'm fair and had actually sworn off foundation for a long time because I would always end up with the dreaded demarcation line at the jaw, where makeup ended and real skin began. This makeup is good for me precisely because it runs lighter than what it appears to be in the package. They say you should go a shade darker than what you think you need and it should be a match, so if you like regenerist and want it in your makeup too, here's a possibility.

It seems like the drugstore brands of makeup are really stepping up to where they are comparable if not better than the dept. store ones. Of course their prices reflect the increase in quality, but at least you can usually find BOGO sales.

I think they're talking about the shortening -- the gloppy white stuff that comes in a can-type packaging.
