I don't know if this is a symptom of peri or not, but I have so many anymore it wouldn't surprise me. Does anyone have trouble with feeling like or gagging when they get up. Some mornings, usually when I'm trying to brush my teeth, I will get this gagging feeling and sometimes do gag to the point of upsetting my stomach. Other mornings I'm fine and don't gag at all. This has been happening for 6 months or so and at first I thought maybe it was connected to my sinuses, but after reading so many other unusal symptoms it made me wonder.

Hi Unsure,

Do you have trouble swallowing? I do sometimes gag but it's because I have trouble swallowing. I just heard recently that many people as they age have to have their esophagus stretched. ohmy.gif

It does sound strange to gag while brushing your teeth but maybe the position of the mouth and throat? This is a strange time.

I have nausea from time to time in the morning. I'm sure it's peri related as I used to get like that before my period sometimes--so there's definitely a hormone trigger there.

A couple of other things jumped out at me and have caused nausea issues for me too.

Do you have acid reflux? You may not be aware you have it and if you lay flat in bed, stomach acids may be popping up into your esaphagus while you're asleep. I've been on Nexium and Prilosec and that seems to have helped me. I also sleep propped up on several pillows.

Also, post-nasal drip can give you that icky feeling in the morning. I have that and it always seems worse in spring when my allergies start in.

Hi CarolH, nope no trouble swallowing thank goodness cuz having the esophagus stretched doesn't sound fun sad.gif

Bookworm56, I don't think I have acid reflux, but I'll have to bring it up to the Dr. I do sometimes get heartburn and gas build up if I eat too late or the wrong thing (potatoes and grease). I'm going with the post-nasal drip theory for now, but thanx for the input and I'll definitely look into it.

Hi. At certain times of the month I am more succeptable (sp?) to being gaggy. Have to be careful brushing my teeth/tongue, and even have trouble getting down my tiny thyroid pill. This has been going on for years (at least last 8-ish), so definitely feel its hormonal.
