Hi, I am 46 years old and a mother of 5, twins (girl/boy 23 yrs. old), boy 21, boy 19, boy 6. Up until August of 08 my periods were regular... confirmed with progesterone blood work done on 7 days past ovulation to confirm that I was indeed ovulating. I had my last miscarrage in June of 05. In July of 08, I had my period as normal, but it didn't stop... for 4 weeks straight I was hemorraghing. I had to go to the ER for severe bleeding and anemia. My OB/GYN gave me a Depo-Provera shot (birth control pill shot) to stop my bleeding, which it did finally after 4 weeks straight and such a depleted red blood count and iron levels. On 8/8/08 I had an Endometrial Ablation done to stop my bleeding. Because of the Depo-Provera shot that would last for 3 months... I had spotting off and on for 3 months. Then once the shot was out of my system... I began having regular periods. My last period was on 2/1/09. Two Sundays ago I got a + digital pregnancy test. So I'm thinking I'm pregnant. But when I went in to the dr to have blood work done... my HCG came back at 3. 5 is considered pregnant. So I have no idea what is going on with my body, but I am about a month past when my period should have began.

I am wondering if this is the beginning of me going through menopause? How will I know? Are there any tests I can have my dr. do and/or an ultrasound to see if I'm going through menopause?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a bunch,

Hi Yvette,
Welcome to PS. This is the place to come for support, help, and advice.

Have you had an endometrial biopsy to rule out anything more serious?

Yes, you could definitely be going through meno.

Maybe do a PG test one more time in a couple weeks to be sure you are not PG.

Many times women will bleed forever, then stop, then either skip several periods or never have another. Are you having any other symptoms that concern you?

Well... I talked to my dr. and they are going to do an FSH test to see if my ovaries are not functioning any more and also do an ultrasound since I still have no period.

The only real thing I notice is I cry about everything... very emotional lately. But then yesterday morning my husband and I had sex and it hurt... it just didn't feel lubricated like it normally does!

I'm not really having hot flashes I don't think. I am having major anxiety and panic attacks, but I've had them for awhile... lots of stress in my life. So I'm not sure that is due to maybe going through menopause or not!

I too am going through perimenopause after an ablation. I was told I could not get pregnant after. Did they tell you that?Your doctor can do tests to see if you are going through peri or not. There are other things that could have the same symptoms so I suggest you get a full check up as well. You have come to the right forum. These ladies are here to walk you through this and to give you good advice. Good luck.

Can someone recommend to me what tests I should have my OB do? I am going to call on Wednesday and have the blood work scheduled for Thursday?
