hi. i searched the forum for "hyperechoic focus", and could not find anything, so i thought i'd start a thread. apologies if i somehow overlooked any information on the subject.

first a brief of recent history :
the reason i sought initial gyn consultation was due to three missed cycles -nov 2008- feb 2009. over the years, it was not uncommn for me to miss two cycles in a row. anyway, my FSH was elevated, and since all else was within normal range, so my my regular doctors' care plan was one round of provera to try and jump-start the cycle [to no avail, and she suggested perhaps i'm in menopause, and see a gyn].

on my first visit with a Wonderful ob/gyn in indiana, i had more labs drawn, as it was several weeks since the first labs, and a little over one week after taking provera. i allso had a TVUS, and was scheduled to return for a follow up in one week.

well, the FSH was elevated at 118.58, all other labs fine. the doctor said i seemed to have skated through peri, menopause, and i'm post now, without symptoms, at 41 years of age. i'm finished with it all- yay! however, there was a 7.3mm thickness instead of <5mm, and something called a "hyperechoic focus" on the print out of the TVUS. he felt comfortable waiting four months with my permission, to reschedule the second TVUS. he expects the lining to shrink, as my body continues to skip monthly cycles.

i had a biopsy of my uterus around 2003, due to the irregular cycles. i wondered if the hyperechoic focus could be a result of that procedure, so when i got home i read that sometimes, indeed the hyperechoic focus [foci=plural?] are found [from the instrument something about a clamp i think]. so, i'm scheduled for july 2009, and will go from there.

respectfully,

thank you for responding kindly, elizabeth! the spot on the TVUS- hyperechoic focus- may be benign tissue, scar tissue from an old biopsy [instrument], or pre-cancerous. i am so glad for all of us women the availabilty of these imaging machines to early detect anything.

best,
ep
