Hi, I am new here - posting for the first time. smile.gif

I am a 39 year old woman..and I am wondering if I am going through peri or not. Since about 2 years ago, my periods are a bit lighter than it used to be, but still regular. Since last December, my periods have gone from regular to skipping a month and a half. Before all of this changed, my periods were always regular but heavier. I am not complaining it is lighter now though. My hair used to be very oily when not washed often so I used to just shampoo it, but now I have to use a conditioner in my hair after I wash it with shampoo....it's like my hair had gotten a bit dryer.

I have never had any hot flashes before or any of the other common symptoms (I still have the sex desire too)...but the only big change is my period. I never had any kids, so I wonder if 39 is a bit early for peri or is it common in that age?

Am I in peri or not? Just wondering. smile.gif

I can't say if you are in peri or not. Time will tell.I am 39 and in peri, so you are not too young. You may want to see your doctor as some other things mimic the signs of peri. Also you may want to talk to the doctor about how to treat your peri symptoms.

Dear HOHNancy
Welcome to the site.Am so glad you are joining us.I was fully Menopausal at 39.
You might well be Peri. but it would be difficult to say exactly without a full Gyno.check up.Sometimes the Thyroid can mimic certain symptoms and can causer drier hair. Also other endocrine issues can lighten the period.
So get yourself off to the Gyn. for a full check up.that way you will know exactly where you stand hormonally.

Oh and please keep us posted!

Good Luck

Hi Nancy! Welcome to Power Surge!! There is A LOT of information here so I encourage you to check out the entire site!! Peri actually starts 10-15 years before actual menopause (the stopping of your period) so 39 is right in the ballpark! Here are a couple links that might help you:

You'll find a lot of support here on the boards!! Come back often!!

Whoa Nancy. Some of what you wrote sounds vaguely familiar. The peri stuff hit hard when I turned 40 (I'm now 42), but there were small hints of things the few years before. I also do not have kids (just pets), and used to have SUPER greasy hair if I didn't wash it daily. I now use shampoo with conditioner, and its STILL not enough. I might have to hit the hard stuff...like olive oil or something happy.gif
