I've always been the most bubbly, perennially optimistic person in the world. I wasn't worried about anything when I decided to change careers after 30 years and go back to college 7 months ago. I wasn't concerned that it would be a bit of an adjustment to move in with someone at the same time. And I laughed at the very prospect of menopause getting in my way at all. 50 is the new 30, I told myself.

Well, now, here I am, wondering where the easy-going, water-off-a-ducks-back gal I used to know has disappeared to.

Sleep is not the easy thing I used to know, my joints are killing me. Hot flashes, itchy skin, headaches...I cry at the drop of my hat if my partner looks at me sideways, then two minutes later I'm giddy as a 2 year old. And self-confidence...what the heck is that? dry.gif

Anyway, no point to any of this, except to vent after a particularly rough day and ask a simple question: Does it eventually get better?

I know the answer is yes, but I just need to hear it from those who've been there.

Dear 'Cindylou'
Yes things do really improve but I am not going to lie to you.It might be a very long journey, with physical and emotional symptoms which at times feel un-bearable.Or you hopefully will be one of the luckier ladies and find that Herbs and Vitamin supplements may be what you need to get through

Try to step up the exercise.just a brisk walk a day is good.Cut back on caffeine and sugary foods.Either cut out alcohol or keep it to a minimum.

Make sure you get to a Gyno. for a thorough check up including your Thyroid. When you know exactly where you stand you will be proactive about your health and how to manage your symptoms.

Keep us posted

Warm Wishes

Yes, they say it gets better. smile.gif

You have taken on a lot of stress to deal with at this time too so try to be as kind to yourself as you can. As Elizabeth said, long walks, soaks in the tub, monthly massages, and hire a housekeeper if you can. tongue.gif

Yes Elizabeth, I don't have one either but I just know a housekeeper would solve most of my problems.. then the cook, personal shopper and magician could solve the others. biggrin.gif

Thanks for the words of encouragement. I really appreciate them.

I do have thyroid issues and have been on synthroid for about 10 years. I've come across a little bit on here about synthroid not working the same after menopause, I must ask my doctor about that.

Cut down caffeine?? :-( Now, that - and get more exercise - are two things I didn't want to hear. How about drink lots of really expensive rich coffees and chocolate and lie on the couch everyday...isn't that better for me? Please? laugh.gif

I'm fortunate in that my partner shares the cooking and cleaning duties. He's better at cleaning, I'm better at cooking, and we work pretty well together, I'm lucky for that.

I just really want the bubbly, optimistic me back; I miss her. This sensitive, mopey, crabby old lady...I don't like her taking over my body at all. mad.gif

Thanks again for the kind words...I'll take any suggestions into serious consideration, I promise.
