HI ladies.........does any of this sound like costo..........?

I was told i had costo too,,,but my symptoms are different ....

I get this lousy, DEEP ache in my left rib area, NOT under my breast, but more on my side, and left waist. ... it then, goes around to the left side of my back, (always on the left side of the spine), I'd say, around the kidney area, and below, down to the curve of your back, and maybe down a little farther. .... i've had urine tests and it's not anything kidney related, NOR DO I HAVE A UTI....so, it's not my kidney .... my dr. said it's costo .... so, does any of that sound familiar to anyone here?

I have to keep putting BEN GAY on my left side, waist, and left back area .... AND ESP. down by the lower back, next to the spine ... Ugh! i take some tylenol or advil, which USUALLY helps somewhat, but the ache and lousy feeling in there makes me feel queasy (which usually happens with muscle problems) .... I have to lay down, and either use the heating pad on that area, or perhaps, my hair dryer to heat the area up .... that helps more than anything.

anyway, do any of you out there have these or similar symptoms with costo? Thanks everyone! smile.gif

Yes I have similar pain issues as you with my left side. The pain you are feeling in the lower back area could be coming from the Quadratus Lumborum muscle which is attached to the bottom of the rib cage and then attaches to the top of the pelvis bone. I have many issues with this muscle on my left side since injuring my lower back last year. If you have costo especially in the lower rib area then the QL muscle could be affected too since it attaches there. I have triggerpoint release acupuncture to release my QL muscle which helps but doesn't keep the nasty things away indefinitely. Another thing is emotional tension etc can often settle in this muscle area too, just some food for thought as I know from experience as soon as I get stressed these days it goes straight to that muscle. Mine will also cause pain into my left butt area as it refers pain into different areas.

Hi Rox ... thank you! ok, does this ever get WORSE before your period? I am 2 days late, and i'd say this ache thing started a few days ago, which would have made it a few days before my period was due. Does this happen to you BEFORE your period, and if it does, is it WORSE then? Now, my dr. says he "suspects" costo ... basically because it's not my kidney ... but, i've had this happen before, but this time, IT'S WORSE! geez! My husband has been sitting here on the couch with me all night, just messaging and tickling my back and waist .... just to HELP it SOMEWHAT.... when I've gotten this before, his messaging me has usually helped, NOT THIS TIME .... ok, is that NORMAL for costo.? (for the the QL, perhaps?) My dr. had said, you can have lesser and more worse type of attacks, is this true for not only costo. but for the QL muscle thingy as well? Also, how long does it last for you? When this happens with me, it'll last for about 4 days ...sometimes more. UGH!

rox....thank you for replying! I will look forward to your (and anyone else's ) responses ..... THANK YOU GUYS...

My darling for me it is lasting indefinitely at present and yes it can get worse premenstrually and especially around ovulation time (usually day 13 of my cycle is absolute doom and gloom). I don't know much about costo but when I first started having peri symptoms before my big crash in 2006 costo of my lower ribs was one of the first things I remember suffering with. It would come and go but what I have now is a combination of everything I think after being sick 7 weeks ago. I think I have costo, GERD, hiatal hernia pain, hyperventilation syndrome, sore achy fingers and throw in the reinjury of my QL muscle and some piriformis discomfort and loads of stress because of it along with a ton of health anxiety and you have a very unhappy camper mad.gif

I often wonder if it's my kidney too but when I first injured my back last year they tested my kidney's thinking I may have had a kidney infection etc but all was good so it was my lower back (which of course I knew already) and I have been having treatment on it ever since on and off. The only thing that gives me some relief from the tightness of the muscle is the acupuncture. My physical therapist uses a long needle and just goes in and out into the QL muscle releasing the triggerpoints, it's rather painful but effective. It's not like regular acupuncture where they leave the smaller needles in the skin, this way she hits the triggerpoint and when she does you sure feel it, it's like a lightening bolt and the muscle jerks. I have a triggerpoint therapy workbook and it explains about these triggerpoints and it also says that estrogen helps keep them at bay so low estrogen makes sense to why we suffer so much with muscle discomfort.

I'm thinking I have some costo issues now too cos by the end of the day I can't even stand my bra on anymore it's just too constricting ohmy.gif

Yes, I have had this for years, but on my right side. It stopped me from wearing a bra at all in 1992. It bothers me to the extent that I even have more frequent pvc's when wearing a bra. Somehow the nerve and the muscle and whatever are all involved which triggers spasms of the vagal nerve sans the pvc's.

I am 45 and I have Fibromyalgia. I have had this every now and again. I am sorry that you have this pain. If Ben Gay helps use it. There is no reason to be in pain. For me when it coms upon me sometimes I just have to lay straight on a bed and let it pass.

I have Fibromyalgia and costo is a major symptom of mine.
It sounds like my pain, mine is very much my chest/collarbone & rib area and also pelvis and back.
I had triggerpoint injections last year, in my chest & collarbone and top of my back, but didnt help the
pain.
Its just a case of trying different things to try and ease it. I hope you get some relief soon.xxx
