I am 38. When I was 34 I had 75% of my left ovary removed and lots of adhesions and endo also removed. I now have 3 masses 2 cm each on my right ovary. They can no longer even find my left ovary. So I am assuming it has shrunk and died off. Oh well......

I am prepared to be told that my Right ovary can not be saved (I am slightly worried about Ovarian Cancer since my CA-125 was a 75, but was told it was elevated most likely due to endo and cysts).

My question(s):

If I lose my last ovary, should I just have them take my uterus too? Seeing as I have Endo, I don't know if it will help that not come back.

Does ANxiety get worse after a Hyster? If so Im screwed, cause I already have Generalized Anxiety Disorder....(That has gotten worse since I started Peri just over a year ago). Im just now learning it can all be related.....

HELP....I just want to be pain free.

((((hugs to you Army)))))

I don't have the knowledge to give you any advice unfortunately but I just wanted to post my best wishes for you. Hopefully those with more experience will come along and give more help.

I can tell u I don't miss my uterus! From my readings at HS it seems removing the ovaries can go really well or really sour for those already having issues hormonally. Guess it is like peri-meno some have it worse than others. Cross that bridge when you get there!

I just want to say that I had a polyp, fibroids, cyst and endemetriosis, lots of bleeding ect...I had a partial hystorecomy 5 weeks ago, and I feel less anixous now with all that stuff our of me and not wondering if and when I will start bleeding or stop. I have had alot of anxiety with my meno. But now I am glad its over. I am feeling better about it. Now we are adjusting my hormones and getting me straight there. I am not saying to do this. This is just my feelings and I hope the decision you make is the right one for you.

good luck

Dear'Army Wife'
Have had no experience with surgical menopause except from what I read from what other ladies on this Forum.Everyone seems to have a different reaction.
However,I can say that when I was fully Menopausal at 39,anxiety was over the roof.I take Xanax,as needed and this always helps.

Obviously,I cannot give you an opinion on whether you should have your uterus removed.I do think you should discuss this in a lot more detail with your Gyno.

Hopefully, you will get lots of advice from ladies who have been through surgical menopause.
I wish you well and please keep us posted

Warm Wishes

If I understand right-you have virtually lost your ovarian function already?
It is the loss of ovaries that puts you into surgical menopause not the hysterectomy.

I had surgical menopause three years ago when my ovaries were taken along with my hysterectomy.
As my ovaries were fully functioning and healthy when they were taken I did have a very hard time with hot flushes and anxiety. I had cancer of the uterus and I was not allowed any HRT so it has been very hard.

If you are having your ovaries removed and you are having endo problems then maybe you could consider a hysterectomy? It will not make any difference to how you will feel physically. It is the ovary removal that may cause problems for you but hopefully not too many, given what you have already said.

Good luck

Janet,

I had one ovary removed 4 1/2 years ago, and since then, have been feeling peri coming on....night sweating occasionally, hot flasshes at least 3x a month, anxiety is worse, ect....

Now my remaining ovary is covered in cysts again and the Drs are sending me to an oncologist April 1st. If they take this ovary, I am asking for a full hysterectomy cause I do not want to deal with another surgery anytime soon, lol....

Hi Armywife, I don't have any experience with hysterectomy but wanted to wish you well in your decision making. What I've done over the years (I have a different type of chronic health condition) is to always get a second opinion - especially before considering non reversible surgical procedures. I would also suggest checking out the hystersisters boards. The women their are great for advice and have all sorts information regarding your issues. Some are pre or post op. So that alone gives you an advantage of hearing what they thought Before vs the reality of After surgery. Best regards, J.

UPDATE

I had surgery May 26th. I had opted to keep as much ovary as possible, but that didnt happen. The Dr did a Billateral Oophrectomy. Both ovaries are gone, but they left everything else. Woke up 2 days later in menopause!

Will htis ever get better?

Sorry to hear you had to have a BSO.
How are you feeling now? -any worse than before? Did you have a diagnosis about the diseased ovary?
Will you be allowed HRT?

Since my last post, Ive seen the surgeon, he also removed my fallopean tubes. He didnt take my uterus cause my colon seems to be stuck to it and he wants another surgeon to assist in that in a year or so when my hormones are better....

I am actually feeling pretty good! He started me on a short term round of estrogen (I wanted to go au natural) and I haver to say, I feel better now then I did before!!

The ovary was covered in Endometriomas/chocolate cysts which ever you prefer to call them. No cancer thank Goodness!!!!

As far as the HRT, I will be declining its usage over the next year. I also get to take Prgesterone the first 10 days of the month to make my body have a period....YAY MENOPAUSE AND PERIODS! How did I get so lucky???? Anyways, I am looking forward to the uterus saying bye bye, just so I can get off this HRT and try to get straight on Bio's....

So glad you were all clear !

You can do the bios with or without a uterus, just research a good knowledgeable doctor.
