Hi Girls, just wondering if anyone is taking this or has tried it?Talked with my nurse this morning after talking to the dr. She said Dr. recommended an AD while we are trying to sort thru my hormonal issues. The nurse explained that she is on the AD and it has done wonders for her. So, that made me feel a bit better. I just wonder if any of you have had experience with this?

Pristiq is a different name for effexor, I think there is a slight difference but supposedly the patent is running out on effexor soon so this will be kind of taking over in its place. My mother was just given this last week and she tolerated it about the same as I did effexor....not at all. There are many people happy with the venlafaxine lines of ad's.

Ugh, you no, I just really don't no what to do??I tolerate medications pretty well, so maybe it won't be a problem for me?I am at the end of my rope here. Stopping the crying would be a dream come true!I feel not so bad today?I went to the gym & cleaned a lil bit of the house. I don't feel like crying? Not sure about the AD, I took it today, but? What side effects did you have from taking it?

It honestly made my anxiety ten times worse but I didn't have depression going on either. My mother mentioned the same things that she felt worse. Most people do really well on it but when I have had to take something the old faithful prozac always came through biggrin.gif ! Like I told you in another post if the bouts of depression/crying are unbearable then try it! We have to have our mental and physical health through this!

Hi ladies
I was on prozac for three years, off and on. It made it so I couldn't sleep. I was put on because I started getting more and more moody and just unable to handle stress. Even my co-worker could not stand me sad.gif

I hated the prozac for the sleep issues, but it helped with everything else.
Anyway, the samples at my office of pristiq came in and Doc suggested I try it. I was really fearful at first because I know effexor can be very difficult to get off of and in general has some poor side effects. But I was in great need of sleep and I knew I still needed the AD for anxiety/stress (came close to losing my house).

So far the only side effect was about two weeks of slight nausea. I ate with it and it was much better tolerated. I also have lost ten lbs since going on it. The weight seems a bit easier to lose on this then prozac.

So for all the bad side effects, I've experienced only one. The nausea. Which didn't limit me in anyway at all.

I guess it's like Peri. We are all different and react differently.

The drug rep that samples this drug said they were trying to pass it for peri women. Not just for depression. My moods are very even keel now, occ I get moody and i think it's during a time when I'm close to actually having a period. I have one about every 3-4 mos still.

We now have about 3 women on this drug at my office and all have tolerated it very well. They love it. But it's not for everyone.

Huggles, your sister in Peri!

I was given a script for Pristiq, but honestly, since it is new, I ended up throwing the script away. My experience with AD's have been terrible, I feel that my anxiety is worse than my depression...so, I got very frustrated with the psychiatrist and never went back. WEll, my PCP will not write any more scripts for xanax which is what I need at times, not everyday, but when the anxiety is leading to panic. I guess I could go back and get the script for Pristiq but I'm really scared...I gained so much weight on Zoloft, cannot do that again. I finally got all of the weight off and refuse to let that ever happen again. Can anyone tell me their side effects (I realize everyone is different) and whether or not you feel better taking this? I've tried Lexapro, Prozac and Wellbutrin and ALL of these drugs made my anxiety 100 times worse...it was awful. From what I've read, Pristiq is for major depressive disorder, my problem is anxiety and panic...Help!

Thanks,
Tracey

I took it for panic and anxiety and it did help. I had no major side effects except I don't sleep as well (better if I take the meds in the AM) and I feel shaky.

Although Pristiq has kept my panic attacks away I think my anxiety and panic was brought on by a wave of illness and dizziness this summer...I think it was situational and not long term so I am not wanting to get off the pristiq. I have been taking it for 4 weeks but I'm scared to be on it much longer thinking it will only get harder and harder to come off (plus I've read online that some people are at first helped and then hurt by this medicine...like their symptoms come back). My question is

DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY ADVICE FOR HOW TO WEAN OFF 4 weeks of 50mg Pristiq? I am having an inner ear function test done and they want me off it for two days so I figure I might as well as ahead and get off for good.

Have any of you split your pills and was it okay?

I've heard that pristiq is really the old Effexor, which can have nasty side effects when you come off. Taper down slowly, check with your doc and make sure. I would think you can cut the pills and lower dosage for a week or more and then lower it again, go very slowly in case you have problems. Good Luck.

I haven't taken any pristiq for 3 days now. So far so good. But like I said I was only on it for a month. I did split a pill last night and take less than 1/4th last night b/c i was getting worried that I might start feeling something weird. I was chilled that was my only weird thing.
