Hello,
I wonder if anyone has experienced this before. I went three months without a period and then had slightly normal one in January. I started spotting around Feb. 16, did that for about a week (really light bleeding that would mainly be when I went to the restroom). I then had a heavier bleeding for about 7 days. I am now back to just light bleeding and spotting, but this has been going for 3 weeks. Is there anything I can take to stop this?? I posted in another forum and got little response. I would appreciate any advice you can give.
Thanks,
Kate

Hi Kate:
Welcome to PS.
I have not had this particular problem. Sometimes my periods are just spotting and then go away but do not last more than 3 days.
Have you spoken to your gyn about this? Maybe it is just how the peri/meno ride is for you but it would not hurt to ask him/her.
Sorry I did not have answers but hugs to you,
Jeaninne

Hi Kate,
It sounds like typical Peri to me! I had something similar about 18 months ago...was totally normal with cycles, then started the "hit and miss" stuff...would be regular, then miss, etc...then came the 2+ months of this crazy spotting...went to my doc..he did an endometrial biopsy to check my lining (a little thickened) and a transvaginal ultrasound...everything was fine...it was simply hormones and Peri. He put me on a 14-day dose of Prometrium. Said I would have a "gusher" of a period after that. I don't recall it being a "gusher"..but it was a heavy enough period to basically "clean me out", so to speak, then it jumpstarted my cycles back to normal. Haven't had it since. Have been skipping more cycles...then normal ones...but my last cycle was just brown spotting, and nothing since. Hang in there...its scary when it starts to go haywire, but you'll soon learn that its par for the course, and perfectly normal!

Hi Kate and welcome to Power Surge.
In my younger years, I experienced a lot of what you described. I am now almost 57 (in April), and I am back to having full periods every 6 months or so. One thing I learned early on about peri is that almost anything goes. If I were you, I would check with the GYN to make sure all is ok. And then try to relax.
I hope to see you here often.

Very best,
Marcy

Thanks for the advice. I know I need to go see the GYN. The spotting is actually subsided for today. I just get so frustrated because I think that I am finished and then "here it is again". Glad to hear that others have had this too.

Hi Kate!
Can I tell you...... 3/26/08 was my last REGULAR period. I skipped APR and MAY. I thought this was because I had surger in in Apr and the stress got to me. June came but it was very very light. Then July came and lasted for 4 weeks!!!! Then I had 10 days off and it came again and lasted another 4 weeks! Some days it'll get heavy and with clots. This has been my pattern since 7/08. I've had the endometrial biopsy done and it came back clear. I've had ultrasounds done. All they can find is a clear general cyst on right ovary which they do not think has anything to do with bleeding. Dr. gave me prometrium. I'm on my 2nd month and it doesn't seem to help. It lightens the bleeding, but i'm still spotting everday. He keeps saying possible hormone imbalance. What is that???? Maybe that means same as PERIMENOPAUSE.
BTW I turned 40 last year in August. I forgot to mention that.
So this is my dilema. Please keep me posted on what your dr's tell you. I'm thinking of going to a different doctor but not sure if it'll do any good.
I definitely understand your frustration!

Nancy,
Thanks for the input. I will turn 40 in May. I think that I have been in peri for about 4 years. (Used to be exremely regular) This fall was the first time I skipped several periods. At my Dr. appt. last year he said that it was unlikely that I was going through peri, but not impossible. He told me to use progesterone cream. I have to admit that I do not use it regularly. Not sure if it made a big difference, but it did seem to help with hot flashes. I have not had hot flashes in awhile, but they seem to be worse when the weather is warmer. I will let you know what the Dr. says. I still need to make my appointment. I guess we just have to keep hanging in there.
Take Care,
Kate
