Hello,
I have not posted here for awhile. I believe I am in peri, but am experiencing something that is really freaking me out. Since Semptember I have had two periods. One in January and began one about two weeks ago. At first it was just light spotting when i went to the restroom ( a pantyliner was really enough) , but now it is pretty heavy and has been for about one week. Usually my periods were only heavy for two days tops. The length has me concerned since. Is this normal? Has anyone else had this happened before. I know that I could call my docter and probably should, but I was wondering if this is all part of peri? I would appreciate any feedback. Thanks.

Hi, Kate, I remember that "phase" very well...it was sort of the "beginning of the end" for me. The wild period phase lasted a couple of years for me. I would skip a period or two or three, then have a marathon period, the worst of which lasted almost three months. It would taper off and then start up heavy again, like three periods linked together with weeks of brown spotting. (The "brown blood" is also a clear sign that you're getting closer to the end...) I did have an internal ultrasound at one point, and it was perfectly normal. How old are you? I was about 45 when I started noticing changes, and about 49 when the really crazy stuff started. Last period at 51, and I'm two years post now.

Thanks for responding. 3 months!! ugh!! I hope that is not going to be the case, but I do feel a little better that you had similiar experience. I will be forty in two months. I know that it is young to have peri, but I have had irregular periods since I was 35-36. It started out as being 2 weeks late or having two periods in one month, but it was very sporadic. I would go back to normal for few months. That has not been the case this year. I did ask my Dr. last year if I was going through early menopause, he said it was unlikely, but not impossible. I truly believe that I am. I also have night sweats and some hot flashes. I also have become so moody and emotional. I have been under extreme emotional stress (my mother died of cancer in December) so I am sure that has some impact on my hormones. This just drives me crazy. I wished for my period for 3 months, now I am praying for it to end. I guess I better make an appointment to see the Dr. I am due anyway.
