Hello all...I've posted a few times before. I was experiencing weird symptoms....which I've posted before. Tingling in feet and hands, swollen veins in hands, prickly skin, burnig feeling on skin, anxiety, etc.

Thought i had some horrible disease...MS, ALS...you name it, i thought it. I Went to a top nuero who said I was fine...maybe a hypo with Googlitis...but physically fine. Also at this time my cycle went from predictable 28 days to anywhere between 16 and 40 days. It also went from long and light to short and very heavy/clotty. Went to a OB/GYN who specialized in meno and hormones and had my hormones tested doing the 28 day saliva test. I had some hormonal imbalance and was probably in peri and that was causing my sypmtoms. I'm only 36...however every woman in my family has compelted meno or had a surgical intravention by the age of 45...so it wasn't out of the norm for me. I was so releived....finally an answer. I could deal with anything as long as I knew what it was. The Doctor told me that it would be very hard for me to get pregnant and I would probably need some "assistance". We decided we would start trying this upcoming summer.

So in December I missed my period...i just thought it was weird peri symptoms...but low and behold...I'm prego!! Not at all expected or planned, but my hubby and I are so happy! (Funny when I mentioned to the doctor how she said it would be so hard to get pregnant and here I am pregnant while using a condom, she just said "Wow you guys are so lucky" smile.gif) it's my first so I'm excited and a little overwhelmed...but all is good. I'm due in August.

Anyway I was just wondering if anyone else has been pregnant during peri and if your symptoms were different. For example i was incredibly sick the first 3 months....I also still have the weird symptoms...tingling in hands and feet, strange "rubber band prickles" in my head and on my skin, swollen veins in my hands. My doctor doesn't seem concerned as she said anything you experienced hormonally will only be heightened by pregnancy....I thought the symptoms would go away as my hormones evened out during pregnancy. Also my docotr said that pregnancy is a strain on the body and any physical anxiety symptoms I felt before would be heightened even if I didn't feel anxiety. Do you guys agree with this?

Thanks everyone!!!

Thanks Tara!

Actually after reading many of the 34 symptoms of peri, many of them are similar to pregnancy symptoms...fatigue, upset stomach, bleeding gums, vision changes, ringing in the ears, increase in Carpal Tunnel, aches and pains...all related to hormones....so it does make some sense that I would still be experiencing the same symptoms I was having before.

but I'd still love to hear stories from anyone else who has been through it! Thanks ladies...you are all great!

First off, congratulations on the baby! I was pregnant three times during peri, twice at 40 and my son was born when I was 42. All three pregnancies were achieved on the first attempt, but the first two were lost. My pregnancy with my son was pretty uneventful, but my progesterone level was way too low and the docs had me worried, but he hung in there and was a gorgeous baby! That said, I had some weird feelings while pregnant, some strange crawling sensations on my arms, legs, back, burning of my hands at times, but otherwise no real issues. Let me warn you about one thing though...once my son was born it threw me into full-fledged serious peri. Almost from day one I had real hot flashes while nursing (this I was told is common in the older mom as nursing sort of sends you into a low hormone state), serious vaginal dryness, aches, pains, brain fog. I also had severe restlless leg, but that was due to low ferritin and prescription iron pretty much fixed that. Thiese sumptoms did not really abate after I stopped nursing, and after that (he was about 10 mos old) my peri symptoms actually got worse. So...after that beautiful baby is born, stay on top of your hormonal situation in order to stay as healthy and energetic as you need to be with a little baby! Good luck! Kim

Hello and welcome to PS!

Congratulatons on your pregnancy! I had the strange symptoms while pregnant that you have mentioned, some worsened and some went away. I think overall I had much more energy during the pregnancy than I expected. After I delivered, as someone else mentioned, I went directly into full blown peri. I'm sure things will even out the further along you get...

Best Wishes...

Thanks for the responses....I'm at 24 weeks now and still having werid symptoms. The doctor thinks it's my anxiety and fluctuating hormones...I hope so. On sunday i started to experience a weird sensation on my scalp...kind of like burning skin with an intermittant (sp?) headache. I'm also very flushed in the face and feeling like my face and neck are warm. No fever, swelling in hands or feet or anything like that...just a stiff achy neck and shoulder muscles, this burning sensation on my scalp and a come and go headache. Anyone ever experience anything like this? I know I'm more likely to get headaches while pregnant but the buring scalp sensation is weird. Alhough I have had the burning skin on my hands and feet before?

I can't beleive that even pregnant I'm still having these crazy symptoms and anxiety. I thought pregnancy was supposed to be fun. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much! wink.gif
