I'm reading that a lot of posters here are experiencing the "dizzies". Can anyone describe this? Do you have low-grade headaches with it? I know this can be a problem in perimenopause, but can you get the dizzies if you're post-periods? I have had some for several weeks...have had bp checked; sometimes feels like sinuses, sometimes it happens when I move from standing to sitting or vice versa. Am going back to doc soon...thinks it might be an inner ear problem but how do they determine this?

I wish I had the answer for you. Maybe someone will. Headaches I have a major problem with and I'm post now. I feel off balance at times too. I've heard woman say they were dizzy as well. I hope you get relief soon.

Hugs,
Karen

Yes I started a post on the dizzies. I've had the dizzies for months and it seems to be there everyday. Its not really vertigo but something just doesn't feel quite balanced or something. Its like there's something out of whack at the base of my neck. Sometimes I would feel pressure as well. I also seem to have trouble remembering things as well. I have not had a period for over a year so I guess I am post menopause. Seen many doctors and they all say its anxiety related. Hope your doctors can give you an answer. Good Luck. Let me know how it goes.

Ladies, thanks for all the hugs and encouragement. Karen, did things turn out okay for you? I thought I read on one of the posts that you had a doc's visit recently? Glor, what kinds of testing was done for your headaches before your docs determined they were anxiety related? Thanks.

I actually went to see 2 neurologists and they did some kind of neurological test and EEG (?) on me. I also saw an ENT who did alot of strange tests tipping me sideways, downwards etc... to check out whether it was an inner ear problem. I even went to see psychiatrist and I was on antidepressant for awhile. The AD made me sick as a dog so I stopped that. Both neurolgoists said it was tension headaches related to anxiety that was causing all these sensations in my head. The tension headaches are gone but now I just get the dizzies.
I just want to say that ever since perimenopause started I am been feeling really horrible and not myself at all. I notice though that if I take a tranquilizer my dizziness seems milder.

What kind of symptoms are you having? Did you see a doctor for your problem?

agingracefully,

Montefiore cancelled my appt. that was for yesterday and rescheduled it for Monday. I got an acupuncture treatment and a homeopathic remedy for my headache. I was actually a lot better for 2 days. For the headache she made me a concoction with Nux Vom and she gave me some pills called Women's Precious Teapills for my menopause symptoms like hot flashes, night sweats, insomnia, anxiety, etc. She said it will take time for this all to work. I am getting very agressive this year to try and help myself.

Hugs,
Karen

Karen, sorry I haven't posted in so long. I saw an ENT finally and he is diagnosing this as Benign Positional Vertigo. He gave me a low-dose cortisone shot for some inflammation in my sinuses and an antibiotic regimen for two weeks, plus some exercises to do for the vertigo. The shot really cleared up my headaches almost immediately, and the exercises have helped somewhat. I am supposed to do them for another week or so. I still have the occasional "dizzies" but it has not been nearly as bad as it was. He said if I didn't improve in a few weeks that he would have me get a brain MRI and then if that was okay, he would send me to the Balance Center here in our town. I hope you are feeling better. Let me know how those Teapills work, as I could sure use something for hot flashes, insomnia, anxiety, and heart palps, too.

I have the same thing happen but not every day. My heart palps act up then also, I think it is because I get stressed out. My Dr said it was stress and the muscles at the base of my head and running up my neck and head !!
Karen, how's the acupuncture working ? I thought of that too. How did you pick a acupuncture Dr.?

Glenda,

I'm done with the acupuncture for now. Last week was my 5th treatment. I do say, my headache does feel a little better. I'm taking only a few drops of the homeapathy remedy every other day. I am taking the Teapills too but I wasn't daily. Started them daily again yesterday. I had a few terrible bouts of racing heart in the middle of the night over the past month so we cut back on the remedy. My anxiety has been pretty terrible too so I'm hoping over time that all this stuff will work a bit better. I was referred to the acupuncturist by my therapist but she never used her. I tried it a few years ago but had no success. The person I saw didn't leave the needles in but only for a minute or so. This one left them in for quite some time...20 minutes or so. I figured I would get agressive this year to help myself, especially the headache. At least with the headache I got a definitive diagnoisis of having New Daily Persistent Headache. At least I know others have it and I don't feel as alone as I did.

Hugs,
Karen

Karen,
I told my Dr after the 3rd visit, that Dr's in general needed to put more time into women our age and helping us with our health, and he said he wasn't smart enough to figure out what was wrong if the test don't show anything and gave me muscle relaxers. I threw them away, I can't work and take muscle relaxers. My anxiety is really bad at times and other times I don't seem to be bothered at all !! I will be glad when all this gets better. It will get better, right ? laugh.gif

It's not a lack of smarts. I think it's laziness and lack of interest in fixing a problem they won't have to face. Good for you for throwing away the rx. wink.gif

I've been six months without a period with hot flashes for two years. I have had a history of occasional headaches associated with hormones, usually premenstrual and controlled with ibuprofen and a nap. Within the last three months they have morphed into every three weeks or so with the addition of a dizziness/vertigo sensation and nasal congestion. I've been using progesterone cream daily (3wks on-1wk off) and the headaches have been coming during or after the week off, so I figured it was low progesterone. I have had two episodes this week, my third week on. I have been rubbing on more progesterone cream, taking the ibuprofen and going to sleep for an hour or so. Sometimes this works, sometimes not and I have to repeat the progesterone/nap. I did notice that when I walk on the beach and watch the moving waves during any phase of a headache, this seems to bring on the dizziness, so there is a clue for me. I think the progesterone does help, but I am feeling like my body is taking over and telling me I need more sleep. Tell that to my family!

If I come up with any great solutions, I will be sure to share. So far, only the progesterone cream and no beachwalking for me when I feel one coming on. Thanks for your stories, too, because y'all are a great resource. biggrin.gif
