I want to know if anyone experiences hot flashes in this way:

First a feeling of nervousness or panic, then many heart flutters or palps with a sensation of prickly inner heat. I don't necessarily sweat, just hot, then many minutes later icy cold. The worse part is the anxiety or nervousness. Had the palps checked out and they are benign and am on natural hormones. Does it ever go away?

I only had the palps, unfortunately, would have rather had the hot flash. But I've seen this exact same description from other ladies here, so you are not alone.

Yes, that describes my hot flashes perfectly! The palps are normal with them for some of us women.

Thanks for replying to me. This affects my work, and when I am on the phone ( I do phone support) it is very hard to concentrate and sometimes you get several in a row and it is scary. The doctor has told me they are benign palps and nothing to worry about, but it is hard not to. Do you find anything in particular that helps. The bio-hormones help some but sometimes it is like I don't take anything.

Yep. My flashes come with palps and sometimes a pain in my chest, which only adds to the anxiety of the whole thing.

I have been somewhat better since going on the Vivelle patch. Nothing else seemed to help me.

KL,

Yes I get several in a row too and that freaks me out the most. Pause, beat, pause, beat, pause, beat... and so on. I saw a cardiologist and he said they weren't dangerous but I still hate them and they give me a ton of anxiety. I work full time and just want something to get me through the next 10 years until I retire... that's why I finally broke down and started on the Vivelle patch. I also stopped the OTC progesterone cream.. I think that might have been aggravating it. I still get palps but it seems to be better for now. I can only hope it stays that way.

Dear Happymom

thanks so much for the information. It is comforting to know I am not alone and not crazy. I have had to back out of traveling with my job at times, because I get so panicky with this when it is bad, and in this day and time that is worrisome about keeping your job. I am thankful that I have an understanding boss. I pray your palps and nervousness stays gone.

Before I knew I was going thru Peri, I was having palipitations for years, just slight ones here & there.........about 3 months BEFORE I found out I was in Peri, I had a bout of palpitations that scared me so badly, I tore up 4 packs of ciggerettes, took 2 valium and begged my mom to take me to emergemcy. I thought I was having a stroke....from smoking. My doctor checked me out said I had a very healthy heart...and 139 days later I was finally told I was in Peri and given HRT for Vagional Atrophy...among other things. I still have periods, but very little scanty ones.....never had a hot flash until a year ago, OMG...I had one yesterday in a store..I thought I would die....and this was 5 days after my period ended....now normally I get slight palpitations before, during & a few after my cycle.....this time the only ones I am having are 7 days AFTER my period...just a few.....here & there. The HRT really scaled them down from a 10.10to about 3.10. So they are better. maybe at 53, I'm finally getting to the actual end......in the last 2 years I have panic attacks, my hear feels like it will pound out of my chest.....I can;t breath, i feel panicked.....all this is around my cycle........I do take CHEALATED MAGNESIUM which does hep with the palpitations. I just hope these will not be with me for the rest of my life...I have had many EKG's in the last 5 years, but you know I never seem to have a palpitation during the test! ohmy.gif
