Hi, everyone...I pretty much experience most of the symptoms listed, especially feeling anxious/panicky and lately (past few months) experiencing dizziness. I can't even stand in line at the grocery store to pay for my items as I feel like I'm going to faint. My blood pressure is pretty good most days, but when I don't feel well during the dizziness days, it spikes up. I have an appt to go to the Hall Center discussed on Oprah (for April, 2009). Luckily, I work just a couple miles from the location. Would appeciate any advice on what to do during a dizzy spell and any other info or feedback you can provide. Thanks, ladies!

I was one who suffered from the dizzies for a long long time. I had no idea it was a symptom of peri....who knew?? It was awful, and I didn't want to be anywhere but at home when the dizzies struck. Of course that was not possible, so I had to ride them out as best I could. It is said that if you flex your calf muscles when you feel this way is can help, as if forces the blood back up towards your brain, preventing fainting.

I wish I had a solution for you, but I really don't. My dizzies didn't go away until I started supplementing with Estrogel. I believe whatever was causing my dizzies was directly related to estrogen depletion. The closer I got to menopause the dizzier I got. Eventually it got so bad I was hanging on to things, leaning against walls, etc., because I was sure I was going to fall over!!! I never did fall, amazingly!!

My name "Floater" comes from feeling dizzy, off center, and like I had "medicine head" all the time. I am happy to report this feeling is gone, and I feel like I am attached to the ground again, and I can stand without fear of falling over!!

Floater...thanks so much for your message. It brings me hope knowing that it too shall pass, but boy does it get uncomfortable during these darn dizzies. Does your blood pressure spike when you get dizzy? Aside from the dizziness - what else do you feel, if any? What were your other peri symps? Mine comes with anxiety attacks! Horrible. And when I do get a hot flash (I don't get sweaty - but my heart races, then I get dizzy and it just escalates into a full blown panic attack from freaking out so bad). Being out in public makes it worse. I appreciate your thoughts and input.

Hi Cam,

Your dizzy spells are probably caused by peri menopause. However, have you had your iron counts tested? I received my results from the doctor and as it turns out I am very low in iron. I have had dizzy spells before but these were really bad. I've since started taking an iron supplement and don't have them as much. I hope you find relief soon!

Thanks, Tara. Yes, I'm low on iron also. I do take the supplement, but still experience the dizzies. Thanks for the email. I do pray I get relief soon via The Hall Center. I'm looking forward to being fully tested for hormone imbalance and finally feeling relief. Blessings to you, too.

Carrie - Did you ever get any tests done at the Hall Center and what happened? Did you gain any knowledge or relief? If you haven't gone yet, I hope you post after you've gone. Am anxious to hear what you learned.

Cam,

I did get anxiety and eventually full blown panic attacks, and yes my BP would spike during those!! I went to the ER with my first panic attack as I had no idea what it was!! BP was VERY high...yikes!!! During normal times my BP is quite normal being very close to 110/70. I was given my very first Ativan during that ER visit. The closer I got to meno the worse all these symtoms became until I just crashed. It happened 6 months after my periods had stopped. It was the worst time of my life, with depression, anxiety, panic attacks, dizzy all the time, disconnected from reality....just feeling HORRIBLE physcially as well, couldn't eat, lost 25 pounds, became agoraphobic.....it was truly the nightmare from hell for me.

I have been on Estrogel and Prometrium for a year now, and that has helped HUGELY. I also take Paxil, because back in 07 I was so desperate for some kind of relief I took the AD before the hormones. I don't feel perfect, but I am rarely dizzy now, I don't have much anxiety, panic attacks are a thing of the past....I am out and about in the community again, I can shop and stand in grocery lines (but you know, even now I have FEAR of those feelings coming on).

I am still more tired than I should be....could be a side effect from the AD or lack of testosterone, or both! I am still a work in progress.

Floater - thanks for that. It's pretty much what I am going through right now. I look forward to my Hall Center visit and hopefully be amongst the living again. I'll keep you posted on my progress. Hope you stay well. :-)
