I went in last night to refill my BP script, not noticing that there were no more refills. Longstoryshort, I get a call today that it would be faxed in before the end of the day. HAS NOT BEEN DONE!!! The pharmacist loaned me one pill last night. I cannot be without my meds for even one day!!!!!??????

What am I suppose to do. Yes, this was my fault for not paying attention, but isn't there a better way to do this.............and BEFORE I start having problems??

What do I do?

Ask the pharmacist for couple of days of pills and have him take it off of the new prescription when he fills it. I am very forgetful and my pharmacist has done this for me more than once. I feel a little silly asking but I have been told that this sort of thing occurs now and again and not to worry about it

Good luck

TW, If the pharmacist won't give you some "advance" pills, I'd take the bottle to the nearest Urgent Care facility or ER and explain the situation. I feel certain they would give you a temporary prescription...
TidalWaves
Ok, tell me this, if you can............I always take my bp meds at night, will I be ok if i get my prescription in the morning? I'm trying to reach my son to get him to go to the pharmacy before they close, but he is not answering.

Magnesium is wonderful at lowering BP. If you have any, take about 400 mg. right away and again tomorrow morning. You should be ok until you get the meds.

TW,

I'm not a doctor, but i'm pretty sure if you dont' have the meds for one day you will be fine. You could always go to the ER but i'm almost positive you will be fine, it's over a long period of time if you dont' take the med that would not be good. I think you'll be okay TW.

Let me know what happens,

Hugs,

W HUGS TO YOU .DON'T GET TOO UPSET DOES YOUR BP ACTUALLY GET SKY HIGH IF YOU MISS A DOSE? MY MIL SKIPPED ABOUT A WEEK OF BP DOSE AND WAS ALRIGHT I WAS WONDERING IF YOU CAN HOLD OUT TILL TOMORROW IF NOT I WOULD TAKE ONE OF YOUR ATIVAN CAUSE IT TENDS TO LOWER BP TOO. THATS MY ADVICE I AM NO DOCTOR IF YOU CAN GET INTO A CLINIC OR ER I WOULD TRY THAT FIRST. HUGS TERRY

first of all, don't panic. you'll be fine until you get your next dose. also, my doc told me not to take my b/p meds at night, because i needed them more during the day than when i was sleeping. this might be a good time to make the switch from night to day.

When I went in to have my prescription refilled, the pharmacist acted as though I shouldn't miss even one dose and that scared me because she only loaned me one pill. The nurse did not fax in the refill as she said she would do, so I'm scrambling around trying to find one stupid little pill so that my bp doesn't go sky high. I'm also on bcp and that scared me even more. The pharmacy loaned me another pill so I was ok last night.

gyz, my dr. told me to take mine at night. They make me drowsy and I can't drive that way.

I thought about the Ativan, Terry, but I was trying to hold out for the bp med.

Let's see what today brings.

Thanks to all for calming my fears.

I agree with the girls, don't panic. Trying to keep as calm as possible is a definite plus. Personally I would have also called my doctor to kind of "light a fire under him/her" to get that fax sent. But that is just me...
Normally when I see that I only have about a weeks worth of meds left I try to get it called into the pharmacy..even if I know that I'm not going to get it right away. That way if I do happen to be going by there I can drop in and get it!

Take care, Bev

Bev, I hope everything has worked out for you!! I take three different meds for high BP and once or twice, I have run out of one or the other for a few days. My pressure does not become sky high if I miss one, two or three doses! It takes about a week for it to start getting real high again.

I hope everything has resolved for you today!

Take care!

Thank you ALL very much for helping to calm my fears. I guess I was mostly worried because I am on the bcp for severe cramping and I didn't know how that would affect my health.

I still do not have my meds, but I'm nowhere near as worried as I was yesterday.

I didn't realize I had no more refills left when I took it in to be refilled.

The pharmacist was kind enough to loan me a pill, so that was good.

I've decided to hide a few pills away in case this ever happens again.

TW, just don't forget WHERE you hide them!!! laugh.gif biggrin.gif wink.gif

TW,

This has happened to me too and my BP did not go up at all and I was just as worried as you. I was on 2 meds for my BP at that time. Also there are certain tests that are done (thalium being one) where you cannot take your BP meds for 24-48 hours. My husband has had these tests done with no effect to his BP from not taking his meds.

I keep 5 pills in an extra bottle now just in case I can't get a refill right away. I just replace them each time with ones from my new refill.

Sorry you had to go through all of this.

Hugs,

Arla.

Thank you, Arla! I must have read somewhere that missing your BP meds can cause heart problems and then the way the pharmacist reacted had me worried. I won't get my meds tonight, so we will see what happens. Guess it's time to get the cuff out again. I haven't been taking my bp the way I should either. I became reliant on the meds and my bp had been fine since on them. I can't even get the cuff on by myself, so that will have to wait too. SHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESH!!!

I am glad all this is over with TW! I hate getting my refills. I wish our pills were just at the drug store and we could walk in and just get them w/o talking to the dr. I have get my AD refill faxed to the dr next week. I see her in April. I was cutting them in half trying to drag them out. I heard on the radio today that many people are cutting their pills in half because of the economy. $4 pills at walmart arent a problem though.
