A friend of mine, along with her husband, have been on this diet that uses the injections, sublingual, or cream of the pregnancy hormone HCG. She tried to explain how it all works, but lost me in the beginning of it all. Anyway, the result is a huge weight loss over a short period of time... 6 weeks on and then so many days/weeks off. Sorry I can't explain more about it, but just wondering if anyone here has heard of or done this. Is it safe and what about the hormone for men? I can tell you that it is working for them. She has lost about 30 pounds and you can really tell. He also looks like he's slimmed down quite a bit.

Once again, here we go talking about introducing more hormones into the body!

Thanks for the input.

My gut reaction to this is that noone should mess with hormones unless their quality of life is already messed up. Then it's a great option. My natural hormonal imbalance is putting me through hell. Of course weight issues can affect quality of life, but believe me, things could be a whole lot worse.

A complete lifestyle change in eating and exercise habits sustain weight loss and stabilzation over time not crash dieting BS. I don't understand why people put themselves through this kind of thing only to gain all the weight back and them some once they're off the "crash" diet.

this was my first reaction. however, (and remember, i know nothing about this diet) when i asked about what happens once you go off the diet and about putting the weight back on, like any other weight loss program, she tried to explain how this all affects the thymus gland (i think it was), which in turn, helps your body maintain your weight loss somehow. wish i knew more to be able to explain it better. it all sounds a bit 'out there' to me, also.

my real concern is about the hormones they're putting into their bodies. she said that this thing has been studied since the '40's and is safe.

i guess time will tell.
