Full Version: Rage and Testosterone Levels...

I'm just wondering if those of us who are suffering from the rage have had their testosterone levels checked out. If so, are they high? I'm currently experiencing the rage and anger, as well as hair growth on the face and loss of hair on my head as well as a few other places...and it all seems to be getting worse not better! From what I've been reading this is a sign of testosterone levels being too high....my free testosterone is in the 70% range. Anyone else have these issues along with the rage and higher testosterone levels...

I'm trying to get control over this rage and for the past couple of days I noticed that the progesterone helps but am wondering how long I can use that... I know they suggest 12 or 15 to 28th day... My dd even noticed the difference in my response and reaction to things... huh.gif

I found this...

I have facial hair, especially above my upper lip, that requires shaving occasionally. What causes this?
This is a condition called "hirsutism' (defined as excessive growth of facial and body hair). It indicates that there is a hormonal imbalance between estrogen, testosterone (the dominant male hormone) and progesterone. Progesterone acts as a regulator for the entire endocrine system. A woman who has the hirsute problem probably has PMS too. Both menopausal and menstruating women have reported that facial hair (and body hair) decreased or completely disappeared after three to six months of regular application of cream twice a day. Natural progesterone is needed to effect proper hormonal balance.

Anyone just using progesterone?

A couple of years ago when I was taking bio sublingual test. I was quite irritable and angry and had to stop it. I now realize it was too high of a dose.

Have you had your T levels checked? If you are taking it, then I would definitely stop. T for women is often Rx'd at too high of a dose.

I have never had mine checked but I always know when they are too high. The best thing to do is just stop for a while. I find that I only need to top mine up once in a while as testosterone builds up in the body and can take ages to clear from the blood. You don't need it every day once your levels are up.

I think you have just said that you have had your level tested and it is 70%.

The feelings of rage I had when mine went too high were beyond belief. Like PMS but about 10 times worse! Also when testosterone is too high you lose your libido so it is counter productive to keep using it. I remember losing my libido for a whole month with an OD of testosterone.
I don't use progesterone or estrogen now. I am better with just a tiny amount of testosterone and it doesn't cause me to grow a beard. laugh.gif I did notice when I overdosed that the little hairs on my facial moles got thicker and my hair on my legs grew faster. I also would notice my voice would start to get croaky. As soon as I cut down these went back to normal

Dr. Vliet and other BHRT docs often refuse to give T unless the woman is also taking E. The E can help to counteract the masculinization effects of the T. My doc wouldn't Rx it for me until I started on E for awhile.

It is not recommended as a rule but I am so ill on Estrogen that I do without it. Estrogen is aromatised (ie converted) from Testosterone anyway especially if estrogen levels are low so I get my E though an indirect route. As I am not using E directly I don't need very much T to get a sex drive. Estrogen binds up testosterone anyway which actually kills libido and you just end up having to take a higher dose.
I know it is not common practice to give T without E but some women do quite well on it and I am lucky because my oncologist approves and I am prescribed it.

Vliet says that the E helps with the vaginal health and lubrication and the T helps with the libido. As long as the E isn't too high it won't bind the T. It's all a careful balancing act which seems almost impossible to achieve for most of us. I'm pretty weary of it myself, but I should get my T in the mail tomorrow from the Pharmacy and I will see what happens. I'm almost afraid to try it. I'm going to use just a tiny amount at first.

Have you not tried it yet then? You are right to take it slow but don't be afraid of it. I have a wonderful feeling of energy and brain sharpening up whenever I use it. It also seems to be on a time delay, so that what you take today will not have any effect for a couple of days- so another reason to go slow. Hope it works for you anyway! smile.gif

Sorry ladies for the late reply. I guess I should have stated that I'm not taking any T those are my existing levels...without supplementation. I was just wondering if anyone else experiencing the rage also had higher free testosterone levels... I just started supplementing with the progesterone to balance out my higher estrogen in the follicular phase and noticed that the rage was a little better. I'm not sure what my hormone levels are in this phase because I couldn't get the doctors to test during day 3 only during day 21...

The rage and anger is out of control and the other side effects so I'm not planning on using any T, but hoping that the E and P will make the rage, anger, hair growth, and hair loss better...

I think everyone that I know that uses it only uses it sparingly...

I apologize for the confusion...

I've had horrid rage when my E is too high, even when I know my T is too much. For me, it's the high-E that will make me go off the deep end. When my T is too high, I get symptoms like JanetC, the 'croaky' voice and unwanted body hair. When my E is too much, I get hideously short-tempered, critical and impatient. Slamming doors, very, very easily ticked off and snarky-vocal about it. I take myself out of the scene when this happens. The only mood change I notice with too much T on board is that I am more direct and assertiv, in a pleasant, upbeat way. Like JanetC, when T is just right, I have a crystal clear sense of purpose and absolute sense of well-being. I've done both too much E and T and can tell the difference between the two.

I'm wondering if with either of us, the T is converting to E, as Sariah has said. wrt E and T, I also wonder if T gives us the desire and E gives us the response.

Interesting Gil... My hormone levels in terms of E have always been high, I have always been told I am estrogen dominant and progesterone cream has always helped me with that. However, I stopped using it. I have also read that P is converted to all of the other hormones ONLY if your ovaries are still working properly. If the ovaries are not working properly, then the conversion DOES NOT HAPPEN! I do remember that this hair growth did not get worse until I stopped using the Progesterone so there could be a correlation between the hair growth, the higher testosterone and E numbers and the rage issues...perhaps the E is converting to T because my SBHG is very low which means that the levels of FREE testosterone in my body would be HIGHER...at least during the luteal phase when this was tested. I guess I really need to see what my SBHG and ovarian hormone levels look like in the follicular phase...

I was also reading that T has an impact on your weight loss or fat distribution as well as energy, etc... I guess if I can get my E and P optimized, especially during the luteal phase that this would help me with the anger, hair growth, hair loss, and rage issues... I am thinking, however, that since I started the trial of progesterone so early in my follicular phase...just a couple of days that this will throw my cycle off...we'll see. I do know that I am calmer, albeit still very anxious and easily startled still...

If I could accomplish this, it would be HUGE FOR ME!

Best Wishes...
