Hi to all, I am from Australia and 41 years of age. Over a couple of months ago after exercise (usually bike riding), I had a strange vibrating sensation deep in my right breast or chest, I wasn't quite sure. It would go away and not come back again for a few weeks. When it did come back I was at rest and not physically exercising. Lately I wake up with it, it goes away before I sleep and when I have a few wines.

It actually feels like a mobile phone vibrating!

LIke alot of you women, I have been to Dr's they have checked heart, breast etc. I do have a history of anxiety and am on Zoloft since my son was born 9 years ago. I find it hard to get my head around this being a physical symptom of anxiety.

thanks for listeninig.

Hi Tina,

Welcome to Power Surge. So sorry no one has responded to you yet. I've had vibrations in various parts of my body since I entered peri. I've read other posts here that say that it is relatively common, so it could well be related to your hormones. (Although peri can increase anxiety symptoms also). Maybe someone else will jump in here with their experience.

God Bless.

Hi Tina,
I have been searching on line for the past 2 months trying to figure out the vibrating kind of sensation in my chest and head mostly only that I notice in my sleep, it wakes me up, it goes buzz stops, buzz stops on and on its not a sound but a sensation . I am 53 years old and started hot flashed in July 2008 and those fortunatley have stopped. Then 20lbs of weight anxiety ect. then the buzzing thing. It is weird. I have no idea what it is. I too and looking to find out. It feels as though sometimes my heart rate jumps and then the buzz starts and it feels like no heart beat at all. I just don't know!

Any help would be great!

I usually get the cellphone vibrating feeling in my lower stomach on the side; almost like the phone is in my pocket and I have to double check and make sure i don't have my phone in my pocket. I never put it there. Also, I've felt it it in my left foot. As for the chest, this feels more like fluttering butterflies.

I will be 41 this year and these and other symptoms hit me all at once. When I think back, I've been experiencing some of them for the last maybe 4-5 years, but the severity didn't hit until this past October. I still keep asking myself if this could really be peri and not some bigger problem. My mother says she didn't experience the anxiety that I did which is why sometimes I question this.

I am feeling better now then I was in October through December. Still not 100%, but better.

I can't believe this was just posted. I came on here just now to post almost the same question. About three weeks ago I felt a strange feeling in my left breast that I thought was just my bra rubbing the skin. Later I realized after my bra was removed that it wasn't from the bra at all. Its like a buzzing/vibrating feeling like a cellphone on vibrate. It will buzz for a little while, then stop, then buzz again, etc. Like a vibrating alarm. And it will stop at various times throughout the day and I forget about it. What on earth could this be from? I'm post menopausal, so I doubt its anything to do with hormones. Nerves??

Hi Tina ... welcome to PS! I have had vibrations all over my body, at various times, and all this started once peri really kicked in. In fact, the NEWEST vibrating feeling happened just yesterday ...... I was sitting at my comp. and got up off the chair as usual, well, suddenly, the area right above my belly button and around that area, began to REALLY vibrate!!! I MEAN, REALLY VIBRATE! It felt like it was also happening up by my breasts somewhat, but to a lesser degree.
I freaked out, I got panicky, because I had never had it quite like that! So, I froze, i just stood there waiting for something to happen, and within about a minute or two...it stopped. That made me so panicky, even though I've had so many "vibrations" already, in all diff. places of my body, THIS was strange, THIS was SO INTENSE! So, I decided to make my tea anyway, and try to ignore the whole thing. Within a few minutes of sitting down at my comp. again to finish an email i had begun,....I got up to get my tea.....and guess what......yep, it happened again! REALLY INTENSE VIBRATING! Well, by now, I started to realize that this must be hormonal in some crazy way, so I tried to ignore it, which was hard, because this felt very strange....and scary. Well, throughout the day, this happened on and off, at various times, when I'd get up from either my comp. chair, or from some other chair. I drove around a lot yesterday, and yet, upon getting out of the car, there was NO vibrating .... so, it had to be the way i was sitting in that chair, yet i 've had that chair for a long time, and i've never had this problem! UGH! dry.gif

Apparently, this whole vibrating thing can happen anywhere, anytime, and ANY place........either mildly....or VERY INTENSE! I've had it happen in my head.....not really to intense, but enough. Luckily, i knew what it was from.

Actually, for me.........this vibrating thing is one of the lesser symptoms of peri, there are much worse....lol...

Tina, stay here, and read ..... it's a life saver!

Hi to All,

Thank you for all your comments and reply it has made me feel alot better knowing I'm not the only one experiencing this sensation. I have been reading alot on anxiety and nerves and apparently severe muscle tension can cause this feeling.

When we become so anxious we become "sensitised" to all our bodies different sensations almost a heightened awareness. I think for me, because the first time I felt this vibrating it worried me, then I looked for it and eventually it has become a fear cycle fear and my nerves are overly stimulated causing it to continue. On waking, I wait for it to happen etc.

I know when I have a few wines it disappears, so that has to be nerves as I'm relaxed when I have a couple of wines. Typing this explantion makes sense to me, but when you are caught up in the viscious circle of anxiety and fear, your mind believes it has to be something worse because it is a physical sensation.

I believe hormones during peri menapause and having had a history of anxiety has triggered this sensation for me. The fact that so many women have felt the same thing astounds me that Doctor's have never heard of such a thing.

One book I read regarding physical sensations caused by nerves suggested

1. Facing - the physical sensations not fighting them
2. Accepting - they are there they will go away
3. Floating - through the feelings when they happen
4. Let time pass. Time will heal, it could take alot of time or not there is no magical length.

It's a frightening thing being scared all the time. I wanted to share what info I found and pass it on. If the sensations are not important anymore they will go away.

Take care
Tina x

To all of you, I know how horrible the shaking is. I've written about my experience with it several times over the years. If you do a search for "internal shaking" on this site I'm sure you will find a myriad of posts about this subject. Keep the faith; it does get better -- much, much better!

Many hugs,
Meryl

Hi Tina....if you read some of the posts here you will find a lot of women suffer tremors/buzzing...me included that's how I found PS. I do have my GP who realizes this is a real thing happening and I've spoken to a couple of people who are into natural therapy and they understand as well. Anxiety can make tremors worse then you worry more and so it go's on. Don't worry a lot of us suffer from this!! Please feel free to PM me if you need some support.

Cheers choco

I get the internal shaking or jolts sometimes in the morning when I am just waking.. so far they have been a little less in severity, but for 6 months it was awful.. It must be the wacky hormones... lol!!
This place is wonderful and I am thankful for you all!!

Hi bimmergal, yes I always seem to get tremors in my feet and legs. I'm sitting here and I can feel my left foot and leg go. It's slowing down a lot now...been 4 years. I also have had it in other parts of me back, side, vagina (ha) but when it seemed to start getting longer between tremors (I may go for a few days to a week now) it seems to more the legs and feet. I have certain shoes that will set it off and I feel like I'm walking on very course sand. My legs will buzz at night and the minute I get into bed. Maybe because we are always on the go and when we stop it comes out in the legs and feet. I do notice if I've been on my feet for hours and hours later that night my legs will play up.

Cheers choco

Did you have spasms in calves and feet too along with twitching mine are mostly twitching constantly. I see that many have twitches. have had all the test and no findings, but what is the cause? Is it anxiety or hormones or both. It really is nerve racking. What helps settle them?

Hi tina:

I have to say I had not experienced this before until this morning. Now I can say I relate to it. I have a history of anxiety as well and have been on zoloft for years for it.

Anyway, for the first time since starting peri I have had the buzzing in my chest. It scared the fool out of me and I was kind of staggering around until it passed. Hope this is not a new symptom that is going to stay long enough to become an old symptom ohmy.gif

I dont know if this symptom has anything to do with anxiety. I only know that anxiety is an evil beast and causes so much physical discomfort that it would not surprise me. If it is not anxiety related then I blame hormones (peri).

OMG I am shaking and buzzing right along with all of you!! I am 42 and I just posted in the am I going crazy section about breast/chest tenderness....now that I have read through this post I can add buzzing to that symptom! Soooo hard to describe sometimes but lots of people here know just what we are talking about on all topics--makes me feel soooooo much better! I also have the shin/calf buzzing and also my left shoulder likes to get in on the buzz. I have not had any tests done yet-I am anxiously awaiting my first lab workup since my son was born almost 12 years ago--I've never wanted to go to a dr.s appt. so badly in my life!! And to add to the anxiety...I think I counted 14 of those pesky medical/pharm/meds commercials during 1 movie this evening! I am convinced that I have every disease/condition under the sun sometimes!-my brain knows better, but then worry takes over and I just have to turn off the tv. Ugh!

Has anyone found anything that helps with this problem or do you just learn that it is part of all of this?

biggrin.gif Woo-hoo, I was sitting in my car last night driving home from work and lo and behold, under my seatbelt, it felt like someone had placed a vibrating cellphone in my bra. This was quite wierd, and quite definitely a sensation in my breast, not my chest, pecs, heart, lungs, or whatever. It happened on and off a few times (frankly, I was tempted to grab hold of it and say "hello?") and finally calmed itself down. This morning, it started to happen again and has been going strong on and off all day. It is a small area of my left breast on the lower right quandrant but not far from the center of my breast.

I did a google search and here I am, grateful to know that others have been through this.

I am 58 years old and suffer from fibromyalgia, type II diabetes (fairly well controlled with metformin and diet) and I have a history of cervical spondylosis, which is an arthritic condition on the spine which occasionally puts pressure on the nerves in my left arm.

I am going to assume it is related to the cervical spondylosis coupled with a heckuva lot of stress. Going for a full body massage tonight particularly neck and shoulders to get rid of some of the stress. We'll see how it goes.

So glad to know I am not alone.
