So whats the deal here ladies. I have not had a period since November. Got one last Sunday. Have non stop bleeding, panic attacks, anxiety and foggy head. Oh and did I mention the intense hot flashes and cramps. So tonight I am freezing. I cannot get warm. I am shaking inside, my fingers are blue and I am having waves and ripples of goose bumps on my scalp. This is a new one. Then I got anxious, threw up my hands and started crying saying "I can't do this anymore"!
Happy Valentines Day!!!!!!!!!!!

Bone crunching chills are yet just another stage in the peri-menopause trick bag!
The mechanism is complex but in a nutshell it is falling oestrogen causing the thyroid to get it knickers in a twist, which will lead to an inability to control your basal body temp smoothly and effectively. At this stage I kept a warm snuggly blanket and a hot water bottle nearby and I could be found perched on the nearest radiater to glean extra heat. Next you will find that you will swing from being stone cold to raging hot in a matter of seconds. You will need to change from termal undies to a bikini quicker than a pitstop!
Here are two things that a peri lady needs to know,
1) It is pretty normal for a peri lady and it will go away. (Eventually.)
2) It does not signify that you have some terrible disease.
No worries there then!
ENJOY!

One time I was so cold (weird, cold feeling on the inside) that I almost went the ER because I thought my organs were going to shutdown! It was the strangest feeling. I had this right before my perids stopped all together.

I have been like this this week too. The Dr. put me on BCP's that I had bad reactions to and had to quit taking and now, My hormones are raging! Hot flashes, COLD flashes like no other. I too thought this was the end, anxiety through the roof. I think I have done crashed! Glad to know it is normal though. Also quit smoking the day before I started on the pills so that isnt helping matters any I am sure. Too many systems in my body on overload trying to figure out what the he$$ is going on!

I'm 2 years post and still getting the hot flashes/freezing chills thing. It goes back and forth, back and forth. In my bedroom, I have a big fan, little fan, heating pad, bag of frozen peas (I actually have several of them, and swap them out when they get too warm) and hot water bottle. It's like my little arsenal.
I thought I'd mention one thing that popped into my head...even though I'm sure you're having a normal peri side effect, there is a really bad respiratory bug raging through the U.S. right now. It can morph into pneumonia, and one of the classic signs of pneumonia that people often dont' recognize is shaking chills. If you've been battle a virus, and you find yourself so cold that you're literally shaking hard, it might worth it to get an xray of your lungs. Or at least have a doctor listen to them. Probably a red herring, but I thought I'd bring it up anyways.
Hope you feel better soon!!!

Hi! Round Robin
It has been a while since I have seen you around
I too can still get bone chilling freezes and elevated flashes, not so frequently but they do come on.And I have been on the HRT for many years.
I alternate between a hot water bottle then throwing open all the windows.
God Bless

Dear'jhawley'
Menopause is just the Devil. If it is not one thing it is something else so know all about the symptoms you are having.
Have you had your Thyroid checked as well as your hormones to see where you stand?
I know it feels like the pits when you are in the middle of it and trying to type with fingers that feel like frozen fish sticks!
Best Wishes

Thanks for all your responses. Yes, the symptoms from one day to the next are unbearable. Some new and exciting thing to deal with. This morning, my head is so foggy that I am getting anxious and it's like I am screaming inside to let me out. Can't think and worried how the day will go. My period will not stop and I have had it heavey for 8 days now. I wonder what hormone is raging and causing this. My new doctor did not want to check my levels and not sure why. She started me on Vivegel and I applied it one time and had raging anxiety that was the worse ever so I am afaid to touch it again. I just want some relief!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Contact our pharmacy and speak with one of our consultant pharmacists about doing a consultation and ordering a saliva test to have your hormones measured. You also need to have the proper thyroid lab tests done. We can make recommendations to your doctor for a customized bioidentical hormone regimen that will help get your body balanced.

Lotsa good info. I've gotten those bone chills that you cannot literally warm up. Mine were before periods. I would sit under four heavy blankets in my jammas wrapped in a sweater and a thermal hat on my head...been there done that. Hated it. Thought I was gonna die of frozenocity. New word for you. I would turn white rather than blue. The only thing that helped was drink hot tea and take a heavy blanket, throw it in a HOT dryer for five minutes (while you sit and shake under the covers) and then wrap in it. It will feel like heaven, I promise. I couldnt do the warm baths because I would freeze the moment I got out and shake so hard I could hardly get my clothes on. Sticky wet and unable to get in your clothes. Even my infrared light over the shower did not do it for me. The alternative is a big hot naked man under the four blankets with you. I cant promise you will get the one you want or the results you want even when you do warm up.

welllllll, i can relate to the period of 88 full days before i went straight into peri, then 2 months later meno....the reason i flooded for 88 days without a d&c, is because of a C tech gyne, then a false reading on my cardio, etc, etc. I kept getting tested for low iron levels, thyroid, all were fine. I certainly miss those 88 miserable days, but i was very chilled, especially my hands and feet, fingertips would go numb on me. I pray for one darn normal day, not hot, not freezing and NO anxiety or worry, thats not happening, (I'll take one hot naked man with one blanket?) you can have the other 3 blankets....hmmm!
I'd scare him off with my soaking wet bed clothes, no libido, morning breath ....before ya know it, not to add me tossing and turning, wet cool rag on my face, heating pad, fans blowing, ear plugs and darkening eye patches. did i miss anything?
trying to lighten things up, yet i dread tonite, certainly dread them all.
best to you

Ugh, had to come back in here and read about the "COLD" flashes. My problem up until very recently, has been hot flashes and night sweats. Now, the hot flashes are actually a relief, as I'm having the cold flashes now. Your right, they do feel like when you're sick and get chills. Last night my husband was perfectly comfy, and I had a bathrobe and blasket over me! I've gone in the past few days from the fan on, and no covers, not to mention no jammies alot of the time, water by the bed, window open, no matter how cold outside, and the heater vent to my bedroom closed, to, well, just the opposite. I have never heard of "cold flashes", how long is this going to last, and has anyone found anything that reduces them besides heat?
My new thing is when family wants me to do anything, my response is "let me see how i'm doing in the morning-what type of mood, if I sleep or not, if i'm sobbing for no reason." How come our mothers went through this as if it were nothing? Are we really just a bunch of weenies?
Best to all,
Linda

I'm convinced it's what happens towards THE END of menopause....well that's what I keep telling myself. I am a block of ICE at times not just a 'cold flash'. I don't think we're wimps either. I think we've been bombarded with hormones...in food....it's probably floating about in the air too. The only thing to warm you up is a hot bath or turn up the thermostat! Hugs Antique X
