Okay ladies,
here is another question for those of you who have loads of experience. I have read on this forum that progesterone helps with sleep BUT there are many who cannot tolerate it. I am having a difficult time with it because I have Crohns disease and candida and it seems to aggravate that. Though I think it may help with sleep. I have also read that estradiol will help with sleep BUT I've read that if you are going to take it it is best to use it in the AM because if can give you energy. Now, if it is suppose to help with sleep why can't you take it at night. I feel like such a lab rat trying to figure all this out. I am mainly interested in taking the hormones so I can avoid the hot flashes (during the night) and so that I can get some blessed sleep.
I am taking estriol right now but I don't think it is delivering the punch that I need. What to do, what to do. I just want to sleep so bad. I started taking the progesterone two days ago. 1/4 tsp. in the pm. I have noticed the past two days that my stools are much more loose and I have a gurgling tummy. Don't know if that is progesterone related or not. Has anyone had good experience with restoring sleep by taking BI-EST--and taking the progesterone for ten days every two months-200 mg. a night for ten days. If you have a uterus and have problems with the progest. -that seems to be the best way to take the progest. BUT--DOES THE BI EST HELP WITH SLEEP OR IT IS BETTER TO TAKE THE ESTRADIOL. HOW ABOUT A CREAM COMPOUNDED WITH 50 PERCENT ESTRIOL AND 50 PERCENT ESTRADIOL. ANYHOW--IS THERE ANYONE OUT THERE WITH MY SITUATION?? WOULD LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU.

Avalina,
I need to use a patch .05 mg. of estradiol & biest along with some otc progesterone cream 14 days month. The estradiol makes me feel better mentally and takes away the flashes, palps, and other systems, while the estriol helps me sleep better. I would like my doc to change my biest to 70/30 or 60/40 but he has resisted so far, so I wear a patch also. I have had my uterus removed so I don't need much progesterone but do notice it also helps make me feel balanced. Too much progesterone though, can displace some of the estrogen from the receptor sites, which can cause problems for me. Also, can't apply my progesterone anywhere near my stomach because it really aggravates my tummy troubles.

I think your idea to do a 50/50 ration of estradiol to estriol sounds like a good idea.

Hi,
thanks for resonding. Yes, progesterone aggravates my tummy also. I have crohns and candida and the progesterone really wrecks havoc on my intestines. I am hoping it is the estriol or estradiol that helps with sleep as I do not like taking the progesterone. BUT--feel frightened that I have to take it because I have a uterus. BOy--all this is so confusing!!! Avalina. thanks

Hi Avalina - If the progesterone is hard on your tummy, why don't you the try the vaginal version? Supposedly, it cuts down on the GI problems for those who have trouble with the oral. GI problems have been one of my first and worst symptoms of peri/meno. The first couple of days that I took 100 mg of prometrium, it really bothered my stomach and intestines but after that, things seem to have simmered down so I think I can handle it.
