I am 50 and have not had 4 periods in the last 2 years. I have had all of the symptoms, heart palps( for 2 years and got worse in Oct and Nov. but thank God they left , then disgestive issues- thought I had stomach cancer, hot flashes, night sweats, internal shaking ,insomnia and now the worst it seems is twitching and spasms in my feet and legs bcause they don't let up and have been with me for about 4 weeks. They hit me when my 93 year old grandmother fell- my stress over her, my body, my job, my children has taken it's toll on me. Through all of this I have developed severe anxiety and panic attacks . I woke up in the night with a cramp in my foot and finally got back to sleep, when I got out of bed this morning, I guess I was still anxious about why and what if's and my ears started ringing and I thought I was going to faint. I am freaked out. I am afraid of going to doctors and taking medicine. Very, very afraid. Always have been. It would take me being near coma to go. I am afraid of bad diagnosis. I pray but my prayers don't seem to go anywhere. Please someone share with me that you have had this thing with muscle spasms and twitching. I have started taking mag and cal. but it is not taking them away totally nor does it touch the anxiety. My husband is constantly telling me that I am ok. but I don't believe it when everyday something happens in my body. Or the symptoms don't leave right away. I just want to be free from the fear of some terrible disease.

Hi I feel so sorry for you. yes i have had some muscle twithcing and pain in my hips and calfs. I have heard many woman complain of it. I think it is normal like the song says, dont worry be happy. I am 48 in a few weeks and my recent thing is bleeding for a long time and having a rushing sound in my ear that is so anoying. hang in there and believe God will take care of you. it sounds like you have a good gene factor in your family and your grandmother maybe went through the same thing. be at peace and let the love of God rule your life not the adversary. love lindy

I am sorry you are having such a rough time.

What you are going thru sounds similar to what I went thru....I call it my dark time. I did have to get medical intervention as I was a complete wreck, being unable to leave my house!! The anxiety and panic were horrendous. If you could force yourself to get to the doctor, that really would be best. There are medications out there that could give you back your life!!

However, if you are really not willing to do that then here are a few ideas you can try.

For the anxiety try L-Theanine, it isn't nearly as good as Ativan or Xanax, but it does help and has no adverse side effects. It is available at the health food store.

For sleeping there are many natural sleep aids available at the health food store, or you can try Benadryl - many have had great success with that.

A really good vitamin with lots of Bs, D3, and potassium. They sell some great vitamins thru this site that contains all the recommended ingredients if you want to check that out.

Try drinking green tea often throughout the day, try the decaff type.

Practice square breathing and try and remember to use it during times of high anxiety, it can stave off a panic attack.

hang in there!! If you don't get relief from these ideas, you may have to overcome your fear and force yourself to the doctors....in the end you will be grateful for the relief!

Dear Yedah,

I'm sorry to hear that you are not feeling well. The spasms might be due to potassium deficiency as floater suggested. The other sounds hormonal. Since you don't want to go to the doctors to have your hormones checked, I would suggest checking out the natural cure thread. There are some good ideas there that others have used to ease their symptoms.

Hope you feel better soon!

Yeday, how long has it been since you had a thorough physical? You are engaging in what is called 'magical thinking.' If you don't go to the doctor's, nothing can happen to you. By going, you think you will get a disease. It's very common...but unfortunately, at your age, you desparately need a check up, pap smear, mammogram, and perhaps a bone density test. What can I say to you to get you to see a doctor? Take a bunch of tranquilizers before hand...go with a friend, or your spouse. But just grit your teeth, and PLEASE do it. I work in the health field and see so many cases of people who would have just fine if they had sought medical advice more quickly.

I'm NOT saying I think you have a horrible disease. But you obviouslu are very anxious about being examined medically...and to be having really bad symptoms and afriad to seek help = a bad combination. if you were near me, I'd go with you and tell you stupid knock-knock jokes all the way.

See problem is, we're not doctors. We can comfort you, but ultimately, this will eat away at you until you get a definite answer from a doctor...so please, sweetie, consider going. Do it for your husband, your children...do it for the people who love you. And TELL the nurse or doctor that you have a phobias about doctors so they will go easy you on you. Good luck...

Hugs,
Robin

Thanks to you all. Lindy your response was the most comforting. I know I have been exhalting the enemy's symptoms. If I have to go to the world of doctors and medicine to overcome this I will trust God in it. Maybe magical thinking again to some, but I have been healed by trusting in his Word and promises many, many times. I took my eyes off of my great physician and when I did the enemy brought his bag of tricks with symptoms and fears. I have been looking and expecting bad instead of good. Blessings

Hi,
I have had many of these things over the past two years and alot of it was anxiety ridden due to fluctuating hormones. I am on bcp's now, not everyones choice, but my quality of life is much better now that I am more balanced and I needed that. I take an occasional xanax when I am out of control. Like floater said, I take a daily l-theanine and at times benyadryl at night. I visit to the doctors shoudl also put your mind at ease, so that is a good idea as well. I really hope you get some relief soon.

hi, i just want you to know that i too was very afraid of the doctor..my problems were not the same as yours at all..but if you don't go---your outcome could be the same as mine..i put off going to the doctor for a very long time..every year my sisters asked if i had been to the doctor for a pap..i let it go by for nearly 15 years...every year i said i would go but didn't go....well when i started having bad symptoms..i still didn't want to go...but when i nearly was bleeding to death..i knew i had to go...for my stubborn scared self..i found out i had stage IIIA cervical cancer...i had radiation and chemo treatments (it was too far advanced for surgery) and i am in remission and now..but i was extremely stupid for not going and having preventative check-ups for that many years!! PLEASE GO AND GET CHECKED!! WHY PUT OFF SOMETHING THAT COULD SAVE YOUR LIFE!! i too was afraid of a bad diagnosis---and i did get one--but if i had let it go any longer it could have been too late!!
if you go to the doctor..your mind will be more at ease...i no longer worry about a bad diagnosis--what could be worse than being told you have cancer!! now i accept that fact and just choose to live one day at a time without major worry.. please listen to me..go get checked out! PLEASE!

Bless you! You are not alone in your anxiety and fear. I started all this at 41 if that is any comfort to you. I am at a stage where peri is reasonably under control. Not perfect though, but manageable.

I hate going to the dr too. BUT. I go. I am due for my physical. Both with GP and OBgyn.

Out of the 35 peri symptoms, I had like 45 of them. Yes I know I said more than the 35 because it is so darn overwhelming.
Here is a list of natural products that I recommend.
For insomnia-Valerian, passion flower, a product called "calms forte' by Hylands. Any product with L-theanine like floater said.
Daily take magnesium I take mag-Ox or Slo-mag. Natural Calm is AWESOME. Expect loose stools with it but it can bring your jitters down quick.
Seredyn is super for anxiety. You will need to take it frequently if you anxiety was at the same level as mine. I say it is a good as Xanex w/o a prescription.
I recommend staying away from St Johns Wort if you have BP issues. If not, it might be worth a try???

I take L-arginine for sex drive and it WORKS. Suppose to help with bp too.
The topper is: I am on prescription. I take a BP and an AD. these are what gets me through peri and has given me my life

I muster up so much bravery on my appointment day. My bp elevates and my heart rate goes up but I am here.
Your Husband is right. You will be ok. I understand your prayers not being answered the way YOU want it answered and an answer that you dont like. I have gotten that so man times in my life.
the answer to my prayer is to have my dr help me. I am sorry. We are here on your appt day. Go for it. when it is over it is a relief

I am new here, too. I understand EXACTLY how you feel. I have a ton of symptoms - anxiety, fatigue, insomnia, wacked out periods, anger, sadness, body aches, a constant whooshing sound in my right ear, an off balance feeling a lot of the time, I could go on! Some I knew were from peri and others I was convinced had to be a sign of something dreadful, but through reading and researching have come to find out can be from peri. I have been so anxious lately, convinced I am going to drop dead at any minute. I did go to a doctor after at least four years without a check up, because I was also afraid of "bad news" . Well, I am grateful I did go because come to find out, I also have high blood pressure. I am NOT trying to scare you, but I feel you should really go to a doctor and get a thorough check up. I cannot help but think what would've happened if I put off going any longer? I have started on a beta blocker and although I do not like meds I know this is what I need to do right now. I am so grateful to have found Power Surge. It helps to put my mind at ease reading posts from so many wondereful women who I understand what I am going through. Good luck to you.
