Thanks Janet. smile.gif I'd be interested to hear if you notice any positive changes with longer term use.
caz-art
OK...here's one for you.....

I have been using various Olay products for several years now...I currently use 'total effects moisturiser' - which I note has parabens in - and regenerist eye serum - also has many parabens in....and I also use Boots 'refine and rewind'....does not say parabens, but am wondering about its contents.

I am 49 - no period for 20 months - so post, assumably(!)....I just did a test that shows I have high estrogens (all 3)...also high testosterone and progesterone.....and yet my symptoms are all of someone with low estrogens (no sex drive, hot spells, anxiety, some depression)????

I'm now wondering if my Olay etc., usage has pushed up my estrogens???

I guess the only way I'll find out is if I stop using all the above to see what happens?!

I'll be back on that one.

Hubby noticed that my eyes looked "brighter" - the small sags and crinkles were really smoothed out and the lid area seemed lifted and fuller. And it took him three months to notice when I went totally blond once so you know the difference was noticeable.

Update: Not quite Sun. to Sun, but every time I log on this thread is at the top... biggrin.gif

So, here it goes...

I used it Sun/Mon nights... only on my face, just three small dots spread around my face and throat...

I SPEPT LIKE A BABY...and felt so good, that it scared me...

I have not used it since last Monday.... laugh.gif

I probably will use it again, just not sure when... tongue.gif biggrin.gif

We are all daft! Its mass hysteria at work laugh.gif We ought to send our findings, with the research we have done to Olay and demand a cut of their profits. laugh.gif

Another nutty development. I started using the Olay Regenerist microsculpting and the night cream on my hands and forearems (sun damage) and the pesky hot flashes that used to start the minute I would lay down have faded off into the sunset. I would stop the cream and see if they returned but I'm not that nuts.

And I sympathize because I would get the night roasts rather than the night sweats and would feel like one of those hot dogs left too long on the cooker that spins them round and round and round.
i see walgreens has there brand of the cream for half the price, mite try that !!!

Career Girl - I've been an Olay user since I was very young. Don't ask how long ago that was! LOL! Well a loooong time ago. I started using the Regenerist line about five years ago and loved the serum and undereye serum. But now they aren't working as well. I was thinking of trying the sculpting cream. How exactly do you notice a difference? Is it truly firming...helps diminish wrinkles? How about evening out skin tone? I hate plopping down $25 at a pop only to find something that does nothing it claims to do. Which of the products do you use?

I have used it for two weeks now...the microsculpting cream...and the face lotion...nothing is different...my hot flashes are the same...night sweats are the same....

NOTHING has changed !!!

so...we are just talking about the micro-sculpting cream right?...is this a facial only or body cream...and which one is working for various people?

Hey Tiona! I use the microsculpting cream. I can say that overall my face and neck skin have improved....I just got my eyes checked and I have 20/20 vision, so it's not that my eye sight has become blurred...LOL. Yes, it evens out my skin tone although that hasn't been my biggest skin aging problem. I'd say it has helped to dimish fine lines and I seem firmer around the chin area. I use Clinique eye cream and have for years. I must say tho', ahem....since I hit the 6th decade, my skin seems pasty looking...like it has no color, and I think that has to do with my skin becoming thinner...Anyway, I am happy overall with the microsculpting cream.

Cheers!

I'm here. I tried it for 2 nights hoping to alleviate the hot flashes and the insomnia. It did help lessen the hot flashes but I had anxiety so had very little sleep. Then it dawned on me that I had a cup of coffee late in the evening on both nights so I'm going without coffee for a couple nights. Then, I'll try the Olay again and see what happens.
Experiment!!!!!

OK for those of you who have been following this thread....I've been using this cream for 6 weeks now and I think it IS having an effect. My hot flushes are a lot less frequent and they are shorter in duration. At night I sleep better. I'm half way through a pot and have ordered more. Anyone else feeling better for starting the cream?

I've been quietly reading this post for awhile now. Some women feel it might have "estrogenic" properties while other have pointed out it contains parabens which might be harmful, not helpful. I'm very sensitive to small amounts of meds so I'm very interested, and believe, that this is truly affecting women in various ways. But, my question is this: If the Olay cream doesn't contain some type of estogen how can it be estrogenic? Couldn't the proposed toxic effect of the parabens be somehow suppressing something in our endocrine system to a more "even" level of homeostatis? Maybe that is why relief is being acheived? Or, is the massaging of the cream creating some "endorphine release" and subsequent relief? Don't know anything more than the next person but am curious. Have been using Oil of Olay face cream for years (but not the pod....yet.) Best Wishes, J.

I have been following this thread a bit, too...went and bought the correct product and started using it...it seemed to work after a couple of days...then on the fifth day I started getting anxiety surges and more skipped beats...then I quit using it and a couple of days later things calmed down...then decided to use it one more time to see if it could actually be the cream or a co-incidence...by that evening the anxiety surges and skipped beats started in again...didn't use it the next morning and by that evening things started calming down again.

So...I guess it is back to finding what works for each one of us...

The parabens supposedly attach to estrogen receptor sites and act as estrogen would...

I am very interested in your comments! I have been using this cream for a while now-I am part way through my second pot.
I really started using it for the fun of trying it out -given the light heartedness of the discussions at the beginning of the thread.
I do not rate it particularly special as a skin cream-it seems no different from any others I have used. I have not found it works for me in the way that some others say-in that it reduces their morning anxiety and flushes.

You have given me pause for thought though because I have been getting more and more low and tearful and anxious of late.
I am not using HRT. Estrogen, even in tiny amounts makes me tearful and foggy headed, but I do use a little testosterone which usually makes me feel upbeat and enthusiastic about life but at present is not. I have been battling this tearful feeling for ages and usually I am never tearful unless I use estrogen or things like black cohosh and soy which can have an estrogenic effect. I am crying at wildlife programs even when they are not sad ohmy.gif
I have to be honest-I thought a huge placebo effect was at work here about this cream but now I am beginning to wonder?
I think I may stop using it for a while and see if I stop the crying jag!

I have also been watching this thread and have not went out to buy the cream yet as I assume it is pricey, but wanted to say that I use to use progesta few years ago and it helped me so much with some of my symptoms....things weren't as bad then as they are now, but I can remember it helping alot, however the ingred. for the tranmission into the skin was paraben....coinidently when they took it out for safety reasons?? it didn't work for me anymore....I ran all over trying to find it with paraben but no they said they didn't use it anymore....it was that simple. I knew it had something to do with the paraben then, there was no question about it. What does paraben do cause cancer? Anyway for those who can't afford htese creams for the toning they are supposed to give there are many natural remedies for this....you don't have to spend a fortune doing it. Does the cream truly change your skin or just tone and tighten as long as you use it? I found I make an egg white mask and you want to talk about tightening....it is not long term, like botox or someting but as long as you do it it makes a difference along with other home remedies...just search and it is alot cheaper and more natural, but if it helps the meno. symptoms then thatis another story. What has this cream got to do with Pojesta? It doesn't claim to have the same affect. Are parabens responsible for transmission into the skin? Transmission of what? What proof do you have that parabens cause cancer? Please post them. The long term use of Botox isn't proof of anything yet, it has to be continually renewed and it isn't a home remedy; egg white will wash off. What proof is there that Olay Regenerist is cancerous? You can keep your egg white, it does nothing for me at all. I'd rather GO with my own body than take Projesta anyday. Never presume anything either! How do you know you can't afford the cream....if you don't know how much it is? If I were you I would just GO with my own body and not knock something you haven't tried. If anyone found a 'home remedy' that worked for menopausal symptoms then they'd make a fortune!

who the ...are you talking to....I have never...I repeat NEVER had someone so rudely respond to me like this...in all my years on this site!

Maybe you better reread my post before you get your undies in too much of a bundle.... the word paraben was brought up many, many times in this thread as possibly being the reason the olay stuff takes care of hotflahses all I stated was that many years ago I took progest which at the time had PARABEN it it and stated that maybe that is the reason it help so much for me with peri symptoms and when they took the paraben out it was so helpful anymore......I wasn't telling anyone to take progest only that it had PARABEN in it and maybe that is why it helped me then!! Secondly I asked the question about cancer, I NEVER said it caused it...... I never once knocked taking the olay for hotflashes or tighteninhg or wrinkle prevention bI also didn't come of the top of my head with it being expensive someone on the thread mentioned it so I assumed.... Did you jump all over them too!! I will also assume from common sense that botox lasts longer and is more potent than putting a cream on your face I never claimed to be a botox expert. REREAD!! I am glad you were able to take out on me whatever bad day you are having.

Parabens are not considered carcinogens, even though there is a big controversy over it. The paraben-phobes are mostly people trying to hawk various forms of "organic" products. They make a lot of specious claims that have not been accepted.

Hey Sunflower -- I'm really sorry I said that. I hadn't seen your response when I wrote it, and I didn't mean it against you. It was just the whole throwing up of one's hands over the whole paraben argument that struck me funny. I use the Olay, but I'm mystified by all the claims for it. It's a face cream. In my opinion, it won't get rid of your hot flashes, stop your palps, eliminate all your wrinkles, start your car on a cold day, feed your cat, or give you some horrible disease. It's just a face cream.

Again, I hope you'll accept my apology and not leave. This whole thread often makes me chuckle because of the exaggerrated claims and counterclaims coming from all perspectives. As you mentioned in your post, people often say things without thinking, and I certainly am guilty of that in this instance.

Parabens are not considered carcinogens, even though there is a big controversy over it. The paraben-phobes are mostly people trying to hawk various forms of "organic" products. They make a lot of specious claims that have not been accepted.

Yep, Wits, my thoguth exactly, it is everywhere, it is common preservative found in food and cosmetics, nothing esle.
It is "organic "cosmetic companies that make claims without having anything to back it up, as usual, all dollar driven, same as they make you think Ester C is much better than regular viramin C, which is nothing but preservative (ascrobic acid), and in reality, has nothign to do with vitamin C our body uses.
There are lots of scams out there, god bless interent, anyone can post anything. wink.gif
As for Regenerist, afetr all the heated debates, I gave in and had myself one too, only used it on my face.
It is not bad facial moistureizer, I would say, and no, i did not expect muracle and it is cheap in my book, only $29 in drugstore and 2 for $38 in costco. if you compare price to Macy's products and famous Creme de Lamer for 120 per oz, this is cheap and good facial cream, IMHO.
I have used some very expensive once, all of them contain paraben and the Lamer was the worst cream I ever used, and a huge rip off.
O'lay at least, delivers some results at a much lower price.
I say egg white works for oily skin, and I use egg yolks if you want really good results for dryed and aging skin. wink.gif
I am almost done with my jar, my face looks fine, pretty much as it used to, a bit better perhaps, so I am thinking to get 2 more in costco.
However, I have not seen any improvements in the way I feel, whatsoever, but I use it as intended on my face. I also have lots of body moistureizers with paraben, I am not too afraid of it, and if there was such effect, I would definetely goteen better.
Frankly, it is quite the opposite, I feel worse than ever, but I doubt it has nothing to do with the cream, it is due to my estrogen sliding.
i really wanted to stay away from this thread, sorry if I said something wrong, as I can see it is already "hot "topic.
Paraben or not, whatever works, we can't avoid chemicals, as our body is a bunch of chemicals and water, and protein, nothing esle.
One last thing, skin is built from within, while it is important to use moisturizers, health diet is the most important thing for good skin, with plenty of olive oil internally and externally;)
reagrds,
I.

Ira, Good to 'see' you on this thread! You always have such sound advice, IMHO! I am continuing with Regenerist as I know my skin looks slightly better since using it and, I consider it cheap in comparision with some highly touted facial creams of which I have used several. I have never had the positive results as with Regenerist.

Cheers!

Hi CG,
I've finally caved in, LOL, I did not want to pour gasoline on fire, to begin with, as my candor sometimes can be very irritable I am sure, consider we all hormonal here, so I tried to stay out of it. wink.gif

I agree on the skin benefits, i think it worked so far better than all expensive creams I have used, and it is good deal for the price, so I am sticking with it too, for another 2 jars, LOL.
I tried different "natural" and "herbal" cosmetic lines, and they do nothing at our age, really. I could just shmear some strawberries on my face for exfolication, have made egg yolk and olive oil mask to tighten and lift, and use cucumber peel to mositure my sking, while making salad with the rest of the cuke.
Point is, most good skin care systems use chemicals, not herbs, and this is proven to work much better than "green" and "organic" and "herbal".
I also found elizabeth arden moisturizer in costco, that was super deal, 2 jars for $29, got it too, and alternate, so far so good.
Hugs,
I.
