Good for you...you have gotten your feet wet now! I am sure more jobs will come rolling your way. Most school districts are in great need for substitutes!

Wooo Hoooo Lady E,

Congrats! It's so much fun (as well as a lot of work) working with little children isn't it? Glad you got called in to sub. I hope it's the start of a lot more phone calls. Are you subbing in just your dtr's school or throughout the district?

Good luck. We're always looking for good subs who really want to work with the children.

God bless,
Donna

As a teacher I know that good substitute teachers are appreciated. All the teachers I know usually leave more work than needed rather than less. So if you did not finish everythng that is okay.

Sometimes teachers have emergencies and the plans may be lacking so it is a good idea to have a little bag of tricks to fall back on. A book or story that you enjoy and can develop some activities for. For ideas check the web for classroom lesson websites. Scholastic.com is a good place to begin. Another word of advice the media specialist is a good resource. get to know her/him.

It is also a good idea to chat with the teachers on the grade level as a way of letting them know you are subbing and also to have some back-up if you need it. I appreciate it when the substitute leaves me a note or email about what was covered and updates on the kids.

Some substitute teachers in my school distribute business cards to the teachers and our school secretary is very good about passing along the name and phone # of new substitutes.

Teaching can be wonderful. You will enjoy it. Please let me know if I can help in any way.

Lady E, this is awesome news. Nothing better than feeling that boost of confidence we all so need at this time. I would give anything to resume a normal day to day life with a job and normal things to fret over like job duties or what to pack for lunch or what should I wear to work today. Not, OMGad, what was that pain, or why I am so dizzy, I need to lay down, am I having a heart attack. I will never again complain about the daily grind. It sounds refreshing.
It is also so great to be around children. They give you such a perspective on life and I have always found I could be myself without worry since children don't judge, they just accept us as we are! What blessings. I bet you get a call back. I hear good subs are tough to come by these days........... Deb
