If anyone will understand this, it'll be one of you girls: I was feeling lean and mean all morning after a good breakfast and a workout (been doing workout every other day and watching what I eat - haven't lost but haven't gained either). Anywho..... I am putting together my dinner to take to work and I open a bag of those Quaker rice cakes (the mini's) and pop two in my month. Within seconds, I feel like the Goodyear Blimp - my thighs start to rub together whilst walking, I can feel my hips expanding along with the butt. This HAS got to be in the head!? Yes? No? ohmy.gif

Were the rice cakes the 'lightly salted' version or the flavored kind? If the flavored kind then it's most likely the preservatives and flavorings and not your head. :-) I can't eat any of the flavored version and the microwavable popcorn is the same way. Along with our diminishing hormones, our digestive systems aren't what they use to be either. :-(

It's not mental. I am the same way. Most days I feel like a blimp. After I eat breakfast I bloat up regardless of what kinds of food I eat. I have IBS and my tummy swells so much it looks like I am 6 months pregnant.

I have IBS as well, but <knock wood> symptoms have been really really manageable over the last few years. I get the occasional flare-up and it's always down to something I've eaten. sad.gif

rice cakes are high glycemic indexed foods! contrary to the "low fat" labeling, rice cakes are not healthy at all. I personally avoid them and would rather grab an apple for crunch factor instead.

Not trying to be judgemental, but they are not healthy and you probably are getting a huge insulin spike when you eat them...so your body might "actually" be responding to the insulin spike...

I'm sorry are you addressing your post to me? Because my post stated rice cakes are NOT healthy because of the high gycelmic index.

Actually no Gia...I was just piggybacking on what you were saying...that they aren't really that good for the body...

Ah, got it. Any kind of "puffed" food items are just bad. Now, if it was "puffed" chocolate cakes I might eat it tongue.gif
