Hope this is the right place. I have been having pins and needles/numbness in my left third and forth fingers on and off for quite a while now. I suspect it's a pinched nerve or something like that in my left shoulder area as it often feels tight if I try to stretch it. Some nights though my arm will fall asleep really bad. It's annoying! Also when I try to do something like sew the pins and needles/numbness start to bug me. My mom complains of this also. Occasionally I'll get a little concerned that it has to do with my heart /circulation but then I think I get on the elliptical at the gym for 30 minutes and get my heart rate up to the 130's sometimes more with no problem so I don't think it's that. It's a nuisance more than anything. Anyone else have this or a similar issue?

Alisa - it sounds like the carpal tunnel in your wrist or a pinched nerve in your elbow maybe. I have had this before. If I do press-up style exercises at an exercise class, it bends my wrist back and has triggered this before. It then lasted a couple of months.

Thank you. I now remember reading something about carpel tunnel awhile back and wondered if this could be that.

You are not alone. For me, I am convinced it is a combination of peri and carpal tunnel.
Take care.

Alisa - i meant to say, i also had problems with it sleeping at night. I found the best position was to try not to bend or twist the wrist so i found it was best to sleep one arm crossed over the other onto opposite shoulders (like a kid being an angel in a nativity play LOL). Rsting it at night this way really helped

I get this and it is from the tmj joint in my jaw. Hard to believe it can go all the way from the top of the head to the fingers, but many doctors have told me it is true. I dont' know if it applies to you, but it's another thought. Good luck.

Could be a pinched nerve or carpal tunnel I suppose. Carpal tunnel usually affects the thumb and first two fingers and the inside of the ring finger. I have had this in both hands for 20+ years. If it gets bad when you sleep, there are wrist braces you can buy at the drug store to sleep in that will keep your wrist immobile. I have had to use them sometimes and they do work. But during the day I find I just have to stop whatever reptitive motion I'm doing and it will go away.
My current problem is tingling in my foot, which I have virtually every day. My orthopaedist says is tarsal tunnel syndrome, but my chiropractor thinks its a pinched nerve in my back -- I'm working with him now to try to fix it. I hope it works because, as you say, it is really annoying!!

The chiropractor is your friend!
If you're having tingling in fingers/hands/toes, have yourself adjusted. It'll take a few treatments maybe but it will get sorted. And keep taking the vitamin B complex.
This has happened to me more times than I care to count, and every time I think, oh no, now I won't be able to work, or play my guitar any more... and my chiro sorts me out.
He/she will likely adjust the Atlas bone on your neck - this is where all the nerves pass through and if it is displaced, nerves get pinched.
Now the tingling just comes and goes and I've learned to ignore it.
I do wear a wrist brace at times though, just for protection, if I'm going to be using the hands a lot e.g. for guitar playing.

I have noticed this now for over a year. At first I thought it had to do with sleeping on the arms and blood circulation being cut off, but after a while it got to be almost every night and I don't think it is a circulation issue. Some nights, it is the ring and pinky fingers that are totally numb and some nights it is the thumb, index and middle fingers. From what I have been reading it could be carpal tunnel syndrome or cubital tunnel syndome and it starts off happening at night while you sleep aparently because of the positions we sleep in. Apparenty carpal tunnel involves the thumb and the other two fingers next to the thumb. Cubital tunnel would be the small finger and ring finger. It is annoying. It seems to be getting worse as it is almost every night now and it needs to be checked out before it gets worse or nerve damaged can become irreversible I try not to sleep with my elbows bent because apparently it causes the nerve to stretch or get compressed, but it is hard to sleep and not bend the elbows or the wrists, plus I sleep on my tummy.

Thank you for all your replies

that makes me feel better! From what you've all told me I am starting to be more aware of the position of my left arm. I notice that when I sit at a table and I put my elbows on the table (bad manners anyway!?) I feel I feel a kind of "zappy' sensation in my left elbow. So I put my arms down so there is no pressure on my elbow. I'm also trying to sleep with a pillow at my side at night (trying to sleep on my right side) and to keep my left arm sort of straight and not bent up draped over the pillow. I did think about going back to my chiro. but havent felt like getting into a regular schedule with her again. She's very, "o.k. now you have to keep coming" and it feels like that goes on forever and it's sort of far to get to her but I like her. It's also a $20 copay each time and I know she's going to want to see me two or three time the first couple weeks. Anybody ever do accupuncture for this?

I spent a good whole YEAR without ever sleeping more than 30 min at a time, due to carpal tunnel. I would be walking the floor at night, in pain. The chiropractor is the one who helped me.
