Being new I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the right place so please move it if not.

After reading several forums I haven't run across this topic and I've been wondering. It's something I'm going to ask my Dr. about also, but thought maybe one of you ladies may already know the answer. I will be 40 in a few days and I'm still taking birth control pills because although I don't want any more children I also don't want to have my tubes tied so I'm patiently (not so) waiting for nature to do it's thing.

However, I got to wondering, forgive me if I sound stupid, but will I just stop having periods even though I'm on the pill? I know they are used to help regulate woman's cycles and I'm just wonder how it will effect the whole menopause thing. I know it certainly hasn't effected any of the lovely side effects such as moodiness, bloating and hot flashes. rolleyes.gif

Thanx much~

Hello J... our stories are similar but not. I am 40 as of last June and had a tubal in 1995. I just recently went on BCP (low-dose) to try to get my peri hormones back on check?? Hopefully it will work. From what I understand and what I have read on here. You will have to go off your birth control pills to see what happens and have your hormones checked to see where you might be on the peri ride. I am not really the one to answer your question but wanted to give ya a reply just the same. Someone more knowledgable than I will answer I am sure. Good Luck!

Thanx for replying. I kinda thought that's how it would go, but I'm not going off them til I know I can't get pregnant...I love my children dearly, but really can't handle another one wink.gif

I think I started this peri ride AFTER being on the pill for 2 years. But, my doctor did say that the hormones in the pill would mask where I was truly at in the peri rollercoaster. The pill definitely helps with most of the symptoms, but I still get some PMS stuff (low anxiety-spotting at about the week 3 mark of the pill). I am like you, we (my husband and I) have decided to not have children (he is 49 I am 42). And I don't want any of the permanent birth control (scares me for some reason). I want him to get the vasectomy!!!!! Wish me luck!!!

Good luck with the vasectomy thing.! My hubby was in no way/no how going to get that done. So I decided that I would. Really, it was a good idea although I was 27 at the time and am now 42. I think because I am going through peri, that I see babies and think OHHHH, I want one. It is just different phases that we go through and think in the back of our minds I guess. I know logically and financially we are fine with only 2. That was the plan in the beginning. I don't regret having the tubal though.

Even the doctor told me the vasectomy is the easiest thing to do. But my husband is the same way, big chicken about it. Some of our friends husbands have even told him how easy it was, and that they were back to normal with a few days. Oh well, I am just paranoid about having anything done like that to me so I guess I can understand a little, tubes tied, the essure procedure..I guess I'll just stick with the pill for now. Thanks and I am interested in how you make with the Loestrin 24FE, I need to switch to a new birth control pill and that is one I am considering.

Yes K, please keep us posted on the Loestrin. My Dr.s appt isn't until April and I'd like to discuss the possibility of switching BCP with her to something that may control my other PMS symptoms better.

SBGirl, my ex husband had a visectomy after our children and it was so easy...went in on a Friday had it done and was back driving his semi on Monday morning. However, guys look at it differently then we do and to them it is a HUGE deal. It's like their manhood is being taken from them and can emotionally reek havic on them, which can then lead to physical issues for them as well.

I had a c-section with my first child, but a natural birth with my second...neither pregnancy was an easy ordeal for me so I choose to stay on the pill and not put my body through anymore which is why I haven't gone the route of a tubal.

It's nice to meet you gals and thanx so much for your feedback.
Have a good day~
J
