To start, I am overweight, but recently I have really had no appetite, not that it seems to make any difference to my weight as I have to remind myself to eat sometimes. Maybe because I feel so bloated practically all the time. Has anyone else felt like this, it's definitely not been a problem for me in the past.

Yes...I feel constantly bloated and nauseous....it is just awful. I have no appetite either....I have to force myself to eat. I am not sure what causes this but it is a horrible feeling.

Dear'IrisN'

Yes,this was a big issue for me when fully Menopausal at 39.Am petite so started to look skeletal. The thought and sight of food almost made me throw up.And yes I often had a bloated feeling although my stomach was almost empty

Relief finally came when I was put on Pozac and started HRT.I am not saying these are the answers for you but you definitely need to get your Hormones and Thyroid checked out and see where you go from there.

Keep us posted
God Bless

Dear'alexsmom'

Sorry you are not feeling well.It is probably a mixture of Hormonal and maybe some anxiety issues.Ginger Ale,sipped very slowly does help the nausea.

You probably need Hormone and Thyroid levels checked to get the help you need
Please keep us posted

Thanks for your reply....I had my thyroid levels checked and was told they were normal. Haven't had my hormone levels checked. I am currently unemployed without insurance so I can't really afford to do much. Although I am going back to the gyno tomorrow...I have been close to suicidal the past few days...I just don't know how to fix this.

Alexsmom,

If you are feeling close to suicidal, and not hungry, you could be suffering depression. This is not something to be taken lightly, and it manifests often with physical as well as mental and emotional symptoms. I am glad you are seeing the doc right away. Don't shy away from anti depressants, as they really really do help a great many people...men and women, young and old!!

I also use BHRT, but I am menopausal. I lost 25 pounds in 2 months from lack of appetite and depression, and anxiety and panic attacks, insomnia, dizziness....blah blah blah.....it was a horrible time!! But with the ADs and the hormones I am doing so much better!! There is hope, never give up!

Dear Alexsmom - I am so sorry to hear that you are having a rough time right now. I am there, too. I just saw a new nurse practitioner and she was wonderful - gave me some real hope that things will get better. I hope your appt. goes as well. IF you decide on HRT or BHRT, Wal-Mart has some HRT/BHRT (estradiol and some form of progesterone) on their $4/month plan. (I bet they have some AD on that plan, too. I just happened to check out the HRT/BHRT and didn't look at the AD's) Let us all know how you make out.

Hi Alexsmom. I am new here and wondering if you can help me or maybe someone else can. I am almost 50 years old (having my birthday on Sunday) and I had a hysterectomy 1 year ago (they left my ovaries in). Over the last 6 months I have noticed a weight gain, around my stomach, hot flashes at times as well as being very cold for a short time and headaches. Then 2 months ago, I started getting migraines (I had them before I was pregnant -22 years ago with my first child and again 19 years ago with my 2nd child. Recently, I have been having morning sickness to the point that I can't keep my breakfast down. I am going on an amazing trip to visit my daughter (she is almost 22 years old) in Israel on Sunday and I could use some advice on what to eat in the morning? I have tried ginger Gravol, which seems to work, but I would appreciate any other suggestions. I have no appetite until around 10:00 and even then can't eat certain foods without feeling a bit sick. Thanks.

Hi, welcome to PowerSurge!

Well, I don't know that I can help much, since it's such a short time before you leave. Your symptoms are common with low estrogen, but there's not enough time to see a doc, get tested, and start the hormone.

Ginger would have been my first recommendation. I don't know what ginger gravol is, but I have taken a few ginger capsules which really seem to help. Maybe get some Remifemin (black cohosh) which seems to help some women who are low on Estrogen, but I don't know how long it would take to kick in and you would have to take 2/day.

I would just skip breakfast if it makes you nauseated and maybe just eat a couple saltine crackers, kind of like what pregnant women with morning sickness have to do. Or some chicken or beef broth.

I do hope you are able to enjoy your trip. I envy you. I've always wanted to go to Israel. Such a rich history and such amazing people.

I haven't really found anything that helps my nausea i am afraid. I know several people have suggested the ginger tea or ginger ale for me. I hope that you can find something to help you before your trip. I would hate for that to ruin it for you. This whole thing is just so frustrating. I wound up having to reschedule my doctors appointment because of bad weather here in KY..can't get in till monday.

That is so good to hear that they have it on the cheap list. I was so afraid it would cost me too much to get any help. I had been on Effexor for a while...but I went off before I lost my job. It was really hard to get off of so I am little hesitate to get back on something else. But right now I will do whatever it takes to feel normal again.

None of the anti depressants should be stopped cold turkey. Effexor is known to be one the most difficult AD's to get off, so hopefully your next one will be easier. I use Paxil, the last time I was on it back in 1997 - 1999 I had no problem weening off of it at all. I took 4 months to go off it, I was in no big hurry.
